Sony DSC H-5 Camera slow response time

I have a Sony DSC H-5 camera and bought brand new batteries (Energizer Rechargeables 2500mAh) and the battery life is very short (about 20 shots after it has been fully charged, the battery status on the screen is displayed as 'low' battery). Can anyone please help to solve this problem. Also, the response time from when the time you press the button to take a shot it takes about 2 seconds to respond before the picture is taken. Any idea why this is the case? Please help... the response time from when the time you press the button to take a shot it takes about 2 seconds to respond before the picture is taken.some times it is more than 5 seconds. Any idea why this is the case? Please help...

There is a diaphram between the shutter button and the shutter that does the focus. Pushing the button half way down pre-focuses and then the picture is instantanious. If the diaphram is broken it take a while before the shutter takes the picture. One of the AA batteries may be defective so try another set and see if that is better. There is also a slight possibility that the secondary battery (hidden within the camera) has gone bad.

the camera will only work with li-ion rechargeable batteries
any alkaline battery such as energizer will not work the camera unless you have the very expensive li ion batteries
also as with all batteries that can be recharged , you may have to charge for 4 hours before use

Sony DSC H5 runs down batteries very rapidly. Much faster than when the camera was originally purchased. A pair of new AA batteries only lasts for 12 - 24 photos. Brand new rechargeables fully charged are...

Hi there please reset the camera 1st . THen pair your battery with your camera. Go in menu then battery type option. Select the type of a battery. After that save the setting. Now try . If you face the same problem then the camera internal power transformer are damaged or week. So you need to replace that transformer after that it will start work properly. You use that camera so long, that's why there is a chance of that damaged. Thanks if its helpful then rating me.

Battery/power-up problem

For what its worth I had this same problem with both rechargeables and alkcalines. Fresh batteries were rejected after just a few shots and were clearly NOT dead. Solution seems to be either use Sony's NP-NH25 cybershot battery which is made of two AA batteries jointed at the hip or use generic rechargeable NiMh batteries with a capacity superior to Sony's battery (>2500mAh).
