How to reconnect DVD drive ?

I can see my DVD drive in device manager. I tried to insert any CD/DVD and the rom is working ( I can hear the sound) but it does not show any content of the CD/DVD. I tried to reboot from the CD but it failed. What's wrong with  my DVD drive?
One last thing, I want to try to reconnect my dvd drive but I can not find any manual/picture/video how to remove DVD ROM from the laptop. I have little experience in this kind of stuff. Is there any sources that I can refer to?

Re: How to reconnect DVD drive ?

Yes, theres a great site for toshiba manuals, google toshiba laptop repair guy, and you'll find it.

I think if I remember right, the keyboard has to come off, then theres 1 or 2 screws to remove and it comes out.

Thanks good luck

My DVD/CD-RW drive isn't recognized/ doesn't play disks.

It may be bad. Has the laptop been damaged? Dropped? Open Device Manager, DVD/CD Rom drives, is it listed? In Start Menu, Computer, Is it listed? Try re installing the DVD rom driver, the MS Vista 32bit drivers can be found here:

goto run and type "compmgmt.msc"(without quotes) and select disc management if the dvd drive is showing below the hard disks means your dvd drive is working fine only thing you have to do is to right click on the CD-Rom 0 and change drive letter and paths to it
.if the CD ROM option is not seen in disk management then you have to go to the device manager option under computer management and expand cd/dvd -rom drives and you will find your dvd drive model if not that means that your dvd drive has got hardware problem

My computer cannot detect cd/dvd inserted

Right-click on my computer, go to 'Manage'. It opens a window, click on 'Device Manager' on the left. On the right, click on 'DVD/CD-ROM Drives'. If it shows your DVD drive, then right-click on it and select 'Uninstall'. Once it has uninstalled, Right-click on your computer name(near the top on the right, above the word 'Computer') and select "Scan for hardware changes". It will re-detect your CD/DVD drive and re-install it. If it cannot find your DVD drive, then you will need to purchase a new one. If it still does not read CD's then try updating the firmware.

Also try physically re-seating the drive by taking it out and putting it back in the PC.

CD/DVD rom drive not working

Hi there.
It sounds like the drivers could be bad or the lens has gone.
This can be a common problem with vista loosing the CD/DVD drives.
Do this >>>>>> right click on "computer" and select "manage" from the sub menu, then select "device manager" from the left hand side, it will generate a list of devices, look down the list for CD/DVD and click on the + icon next to it, from the drop down list right click and uninstall, restart the PC and let vista re-install the drivers for you, then try to use the CD/DVD.
If this does not work please post back.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

When i try to copy dvd it keeps telling me to insert blank disc even though one is in there i can burn cds but not dvd it tells me to put in writeable disk and ive put in dvdr-w and dvd-r and still it...

Go to the device manager to insure your optical drive is in fact a DVD/RW. You should also be able to tell by looking at the front of the drive and see what it says. If it says CD Writable or DVD Rom, you cannot do it. Kind of sounds like you have a CD/RW-DVD Rom combination drive, which does not allow the burning of DVD's.

Let me know, OK.

Hi there:
If you know how to boot the computer into bios look for the boot section and check to see if the cd rom is there if not change the settings to show a cd rom and than save and reboot but i think you may have damaged the cd rom when you forced it open these are pretty delicate devices , force should never be used .
best regards mike

I can't get the computer to find a cd or dvd, it keeps saying please insert disc - but its already in there.

Your driver(s) may be corrupt. Try this. RIGHT click on MY COMPUTER from your desktop, select PROPERTIES from the drop down menu, select the HARDWARE tab, click on the DEVICE MANAGER button, click on the (+) by the DVD/CD-ROM DRIVES line, RIGHT click the drive that isn't working, (this part may sound scary) select the UNINSTALL option, click OK in the warning box, then restart your computer. On restart, WIndows will automatically detect the deleted DVD/CD-ROM drive and will install the appropriate non-corrupt driver(s). This should solve your problem. If not the drive may be defective. Hope this helps!
