Question about GE JVM1440 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

GE profile 1800 2yrs old. Model #JVM 1870cf06. No heat,

Magnetron draws 10.8 amps on each leg, when running. Checked all
the connections on magnetron, look good. Magnetron reads.4 with
ohmmeter. I found the HV Diode blew. Replaced both the HVC & HVD. Did not solve problem. The HV Xformer ohms out to be good. Run unit
about 4 second, turn off and shorted out HVC, good arck @ capacitor. I
think this is telling me the high voltage is working. On the primary side
of HV xformer there are 3 tabs. Top tab as 110v @ all times. The
second tab as 110v until you turn on mic. then drops to 1.2v. The third
tab as 110v until you turn on mic. then drops to 15.5v. The 2nd and 3rd tabs go to HI & LO secondary relays. This looks like the neut.return.
The troubleshooting flow chart says that if the ammeter reads > 8 amps the magnetron and HV compts. are good and that there is a intermittent problem call tag team. I called they refused to help. Need
all the help I can get. Every thing else works.

{ MAGNETRON FAILURE }
I cut the magnetron right down the center. I can see why so many GE magnetron fail. They have a poor Filament design. The sparial spring that completes the filmanet circuit on the cathode will become brittle over time and will surely fail. I am a layman when it comes to this design. I see no GE
magnetron with this filament design lasting 10 years.

JVM 1440 GE microwave stopped heating. all other functions work great. where do I start

GE microwaves are notorious for the magnetron failing, this is what generates the microwaves. Usually the unit will make a louder than normal deep hum when running if this is the case, but not always. If you have the schematic, you can measure for 120 volts leaving the control board to the transformer, you can simply measure the line in on the transformer for this. You also want to visually note that all other functions like the countdown timer, inter light, turntable, and fan are all running when you start a cooking cycle. The monitor, and interlock switches mounted on the latch assy need to be checked for continuity too. If replacing the magnetron we always recommend replacing the high volt diode connected to the capacitor and chassis ground. Pleazer Appliance...

I have a replacement magenetron and diode for a GE Profile undercabinet microwave. Can you share the step by step instructions for replacing it? Model number JVM 3670

Disconnect the power source.
Remove the cabinet to reveal the wiring.
Locate the large transformer. Next to the transformer is the magnetron and diode assembly. MAKE SURE THE CAPACITOR IS DISCHARGED AS LETHAL VOLTAGES ARE HERE!
Disconnect the diode and remember where the connections came from, (a phone camera is useful for this job). Remove the magnetron.
Replace the magnetron and fit the diode pack.
Replace the cabinet and test by placing 1/2 litre of water in the machine, having first measured the temperature of the water.
Microwave for 1 minute.
The water should have increased in temperature by at least 10degrees Celcius. If it has, it is to specification and you have repaired your microwave oven.

No heat

If the fan, lites, all work and appears to be running normal but just no heat, chances are its the magnetron that has failed. Sometimes magnetron will make a deeper noise if it has failed

GE PROFILE PURCHASED 2006 RUNS BUT NO HEAT MICRO/CONV MODEL JEB1095BB

HI. in most cases, this will lead to a failed Heating device(magnetron tube). It would be wise to check the Magnetron cutoff fuse to be sure of its integrity. if the fuse is blown, simply replace it. if the fuse continues to show continuity, replace the magnetron.

(((The fuse is located inside the unit along side the magnetron)))

I think its the mag tube, mine went out the same way. GE will provide the mag tube for free just call them...have a local ge certified tech out to put it in.

Microwave not working, please suggest

Your magnetron tube has failed. According to the warranty on the Profile Series microwave ovens, the magnetron is covered for 5 years from the date of purchase, but labor is not included. I would call GE Customer Service and when they ask for the model number (which begins with JVM) and the serial number, be sure to give the date of purchase as the date you closed on your house. If they insist upon charging you for a service call and labor, I would call my builder's Customer Service Department and demand (very nicely) that they intervene with GE to waive the service and labor charges. That worked for me (Lennar Homes).

Ge jvm 1653 won't heat

Generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:

- bad door switches or door switch mounts
- loose connection at the magnetron
- problem or loose conneciton on the control unit circuit board
- bad magnetron or other high voltage part

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and
