How do print black only on a HP C3100

Many times I do not need something printed in color and would just like it in black to prevent having to change the color ink cartridge so often.  My black cartridge seems to never run out and I have so many left compared to the color cartridges.
When making copies you can use the black vs. color why not when printing off the computer?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks

1. With a word processing document open hit FILE -Print or keyboard short cut: command P to bring up the print window.

2. If STANDARD is not selected in the preset box, select it now.

3. The box needs to show PAPER TYPE/QUALITY. If it doesn't select it now.

4. This should results in the appearance of a small triangle with the WORD COLOR OPTIONS.

5. Click on the triangle to open the additional box for Color.

6. Select GRAY SCALE.

7. Then select gray scale mode: BLACK CARTRIDGE ONLY.

8. Go back to Preset and select SAVE AS.

9. Type in Black Only.

10. Now Black Only will now be a choice when printing, thus saving needless use of the color cartridge.

I hope this works for you. I have struggled a long time finding the way to print black only on my HP Photosmart C3100 printer, no thanks to HP.

Maybe you just need to check the "grayscale printing" option in the printer menu..

HP 722C has quit printing black in color draft

WORKAROUND: Select EconoFast or Draft as the print quality setting in the printer properties. This will prevent the color cartridge from being used. - Or - Try another color cartridge. The color cartridge is used to print grayscale images in Normal or Best print modes, so if one color has run out, the printout will have the wrong tint. With a full color cartridge, the colors can be properly combined to create a composite black. CAUSE: When printing with Normal or Best as the print quality setting, the HP Deskjet 710C or 720C or 722C series printer will use the color ink to improve print quality output, even when printing a grayscale image.

Where is the ink cartridge located on the HP c3140 and how to I get to it?

From the manual:
Make sure the HP All-in-One is on.
Caution If the HP All-in-One is off when you open the print cartridge door
to access the print cartridges, the HP All-in-One will not release the
cartridges for changing. You might damage the HP All-in-One if the print
cartridges are not docked safely when you try to remove them.
2. Make sure you have letter or A4 unused plain white paper loaded in the input tray.
3. Open the print cartridge door.
The print carriage moves to the far right side of the HP All-in-One.
4. Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down on a
print cartridge to release it.
If you are replacing the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the
slot on the left.
If you are replacing the black or photo print cartridge, remove the print cartridge
from the slot on the right.

I can't find the option to print only in black or color in my printer

Click on start Click on printers and faxes Right click on your printer icon in the page opened. Click on Properties on the drop down menu. Click on Preferences/Features Tab on the screen tab. You will see a small square box and next to it Print in Grey scale. If you check this box you will only get Black prints. If you uncheck this box you will get color prints.

Hp officejet 5610 All-in-one having 'cartridge error', need help to solve it. thank you.

Remove both cartridges and clean the electrical contacts with a dry cloth. Clean the contacts in the carriage, inside the product too. Put the cartridges back in.
If that doesn't work, remove the black cartridge from the printer and try to print something. If the color one prints, you need to change the black cartridge. If the color one won't print, and the black does, then you need to change the color cartridge.

How to print in black and white only

Goto Control Panel > Printer and Faxes > Right Click > Printer Prefernces
(on your desired Printer)

A dialogue box will appear, now from here every printer got a bit different tabs.
Even though its too easy to find somthing like "color".
Under such tab you will find options like
  • Color Printing
  • Gray Scale
  • Black Ink Only
  • Toner Saver mode (For Lasers)
So select the Black & White option, and its done.

HP printer not printing true color all of a sudden.

Altho the cartridge is new, you may have used all of the ink of one color. Pictures take an enormous amount of ink to print and all three primary colors are used to create the hues and colors indicated on the picture. Try a new color cartridge and see if that works.

Hp 3210 photosmart Is it possible to print from black cartridge only,

It is possible. You will have to go into the properties of the printer you're using. Assuming you're using WinXP, go to Start>Printers and Faxes and right click your color printer. Choose Printing Preferences. Using my HP Photosmart C3100 as an example, I would next choose the Color tab and under Color Options, choose the radio button that says Print In Grayscale. That will do it.

HP Photosmart C3100 series

I just got off the HP help line.  After changing my black ink cartridge a test page was printing each time I turned the machine on.  This is very costly, in both time and ink as the cartridges themselves for this machine hold very little ink.  I tried to learn from HP tech how to turn off the test-print while keeping my color cartridge empty.  It turns out that you cant do it.  HP requires you to keep buying and using cartridges whether you need them or not.If you buy the color ink it will use it up in its testings.  And if you dont buy the color cartridge it will use up your black ink by printing the test each time you turn on the printer.  The printer was inexpensive sure, but I'm paying for it in wasted ink.
