None of the controls on the control strip do anything. It beeps when closed, and the the panel lights for added heat and cycle indicator are illuminated, but nothing I press makes the cycle start. I have tried unplugging it to see if it would "reboot" but no luck. I tried holding down the start "button" but that didn't work either.

Same issue, machine is about 30 days past waranty. Door switch broke, but of course they (GE repair) do not fix the switch, you have to order the Escutcheon Body (whole panel) to fix ~$350 total.

You somehow got it in TEST/Maintenance mode. I think if you PRESS and HOLD Start for 15sec, it will go back to normal. If not, pull the plug and let sit for 1/2hr
Cheers!

The Start/ reset button is part of the integrated keypad on your model and you will have to replace the whole strip.
See item 719 in this diagram.
Hope this helps. If this is different to your model then please post a comment so that I can find the correct part for your dishwasher.

Although this post is old, I will help anyone else that is searching for the answer. I too had this problem but after looking at the schematics for this dishwasher, I could see where the problem was.
First, open the door and remove the eight screws that hold the inside cover to the front door on. BE CAREFUL. There are wires attached from the front panel of the door to the inside panel for the soap dispenser.
Close the inside panel by slowly raising it up into its closed position and locking into place.
Looking at the front panel from the inside, there is a black box at the top with a white PLASTIC PIN. This pin activates the "CLOSED" signal to the control unit.
Push and HOLD the white pin DOWN until the system resets.
If this does not work, you may need a new unit which runs about $6.
After reseting the system, raise the front panel slightly and press and hold RESET/START for 5-6 secs.
Now, with a second person holding the inner liner against the machine tightly, I started a cycle and it worked fine.
Unlock the inner panel and slowly lower back down and replace the 8 screws.
It's really very simple 10 min fix. the reason this happens is due to the flawed design of the SWITCH PIN, which is not rigid enough. It tends to move side to side and become stuck.
A better quality PIN assembly would solve this issue for GE forever.
Have fun.
