Question about Computers & Internet

Windows Home Server requires a UP+P router to do everything it can do, but I am stuck with the 2Wire Gateway supplied by ATT, my DSL provider. Is there a way to enable Up+P on the 2Wire?

Sorry for the delay in answering, I I'd get an email answer. The 2Wire gateway is 2701HG-B.
I believe it supports UPnP but has been disabled by ATT.
My HP EX470 (upgraded) needs UPnP to set up remote access from the internet.
Thanks for any help in enabling the feature.

My gateway is provided by ATT and customized by them. I believe that the 2Wire 2701HG-B does support UPnP but the feature has been disabled by ATT, because the probably do not want people running web servers on a residential account. I do not want to serve web pages, I merely want to be able to access my HP Windows Home Server EX470 remotely, as it is designed to do. And for that, I need the UPnP feature in the router.
I do not need instructions for different routers/gateways, only the one I have to use, the 2Wire 2701HG-B. There must be a way to configure the router to enable UPnP, so if anyone can answer this question and tell me how, I am glad to pay for the answer.

At this juncture the only possible thing you could try is getting in touch with your ISP, ATT and request them to enable this feature from your DSL router They should comply after hearing your purpose or ask for a static IP for your connection. Once u have a static IP u can yourself do this change of settings on your router by the method described by the other 2 experts. Also feed the data as regards the server you are trying remote access for. Include all details, like IP, Gateway and dns server address for yor router to enable connecting to it. I remember reading somewhere that you need to change your dns settings and match it with the server you are trying to access at your end only for this purpose and then again go back to the dns settings as given by your ISP to be able to roam the net. Also at the server end you got make your PC recogonised by the server so that it remembers your IP and accept it as a part of it own metwork, only then will you be able to remote access it.......................sodeep

How to install to att 2wire 2701hgb modem router

Plug power cord into back of modem and then into an electrical outlet. At this point you should see the lights on the front of the modem beginning to come on.

Check the front of the modem for a solid green DSL light. If the light is still blinking, allow a few more moments before proceeding to step 5. A blinking DSL light indicates a break in the network and will require the help of your service provider if it does not turn solid green.

Open your internet browser and type the default gateway into address bar. The default gateway will be provided by your service provider. Newer model 2Wire modems automatically direct you to the installation instructions when the browser is opened.

Click on "Run System Setup Wizard" in the lower right-hand corner. It may require the system password. This password will be provided by your service provider.

Select your timezone and click 'Next.'

Enter your ISP provided login information and click 'Next'. This should authenticate your credentials on the network and complete the installation.

My at&t 2wire router dsl and internet light flash red often every 1 to 5 min

Hello, there could be a few things causing this problem. The router could be defective, or just died or you may not be getting enough power over your line from ATT. I would call ATT and ask them to test your line and see if everything is working properly. If it is, then you need to replace your modem/router. Any Dsl Modem and Wireless router will work.

Thanks for using FixYa!

Can I use AT&T 2WIRE 2701HG-B DSL to ant ISP?

look if u wish to go for verizon service,,they will provide u with a wireless modem as well,,but if u tell them that u hav a modem then they might configure this modem only,,both ATT and verizon are DSL service providers with PPPoE connections.the only thing u need is the username and passwrd from verizon which u have to setup on the first page of the 2wire setup page,,both the connections are dhcp based.so no other connection settings change required. But when u talk with verizon make sure u tell them of the 2wire modem

Moreover verizon has wireless broadband service which is actually a express card tat u have to put into your computer and u can go online anywhere u go within ur country{it works like a mobile phone}

best of luck,,keep me posted

Can`t get full access to the net on TalkTalk with 2wire 2700hgb

You did everything correctly so far, and your 2wire is getting the signal and info it needs. The unable to contact config server error is not a problem, as thats just 2wires update server, which wont hurt anything if not found. The password defaults back to 8 because of security issues, its still the same one you entered, so thats fine also. Now one thing you should try is the only thing different about the 2 routers. The 2wire has a built in firewall in it, try turning it off for your computer. Click on the firewall tab, then firewall settings. Select your computer and put the dot in DMZ mode and save it. Then restart the pc and see if it works after that. Other then that it could be a problem with the 2wire itself, since you are authenticating fine with your Internet provider.

DSL (2wire modem) and LAN conflict

You can actually try accessing the interface of your gateway and put it on DMZ mode. That way it will open the ports on your gateway to ensure passage of all data from your gateway to all your computers even when the dsl is on. But make sure tat you have security software installed on all your computer workstations bec. putting your 2WIRE gateway on DMZ mode will expose your connection.

Re: Frequent line drop

Easy way to diagnos is call ATT DSL support and ask them to run a line noise test. This will check the signal getting to the gateway. If everything tests fine there is usually an issue with the device.
