To find that out, you would need to actually open the case and see for yourself. Did you find a battery replacement?
RCA does not recommend you this for yourself but since I doubt you still have a warranty, you could contact RCA at their website to check the price for doing that.

Toshiba c655d-s5133 plugged in not charging

Dead battery? Try another cord/charger with the EXACT same power specs.

Plugged in not charging

laptop plugged in not charging:

1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only. If the computer turns on, then the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.

2. Make sure the power adapter is not defective. Test the output voltage of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop.

3. Make sure the DC jack is not loose or broken. A loose DC jack will need to be re-soldered. A broken one will need to be replaced.

4. If you have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work.

5. The power button could be bad

6. The motherboard could be defective & needs to be replaced.

Why wont battery charge on laptop

A) The Battery is old, and beyond charging

B) The AC adapter (Charger) may be bad, and/or one of it's cables may be bad. If there is no one to test it with a multimeter, take it to a computer repair shop, and have it tested.

If bad suggest you look around at prices on the internet, before buying one from the repair shop. (If offered)

C) The port on the laptop, that the AC adapter (Charger) plugs into, is the DC Power Jack. (May be labeled as DC IN )

This jack may be soldered directly to the motherboard, in the laptop, or is attached to a cable which plugs into the motherboard.

For the style that is soldered directly to the motherboard, it's solder connections may have received damage.
Normal plugging in, and unplugging, may have cracked it's solder joints.

Bad connection caused by cracked solder joints, could = no power to battery. (Even though the laptop May be receiving power)

If laptop operates fine on the AC adapter, but the Battery will not charge, the problem may be a power sensor chipset, on the motherboard. May require replacement of the motherboard.

{ This chipset senses;
A) When the battery needs a Full charge, or just a trickle charge.
B) When the battery needs No charge, and power just goes to the laptop.
C) When the Battery needs a trickle charge, or full charge, and the laptop also needs power }

Just bought this at BJ's yesterday. No User Guide. Plugged into laptop and the fan does not come on yet.

Assuming you plugged the power adapter into the laptop and after pressing the power button you have no fan, lights, nothing on the screen.

This could be several issues and sadly most are cheap or easy to fix.

1. Your adapter is bad and needs to be replaced.
2. Your DC jack on the motherboard is damaged (broken solder or pins), DC jack needs to be re soldered or motherboard replaced.
3. Motherboard is bad, needs to be replaced.
4. Battery is bad, remove battery and attempt to power the laptop on with just the adapter plugged in.

Most of the replacement parts can be found on eBay for reasonable prices. The battery and adapter can be tested easily with a multimeter and repalced pretty easy by anyone. The motherboard / jack problem are generally several hundred dollars in repairs from most tech shops.

Honestly I would return the laptop if you have that option available.

I have Acer Aspire 3680-2022 notebook. I still have power instability after buying a new a/c adapter & new battery. When a/c plugged in, battery can randomly & rapidly drop...I get a lot of...

Hello.

The most common reasons for power issues are the battery, power jack and power adapter/cord.

Power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.

The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement. If a power jack problem, it should be addressed by someone knowledgeable.

If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.

Hope this helps.

Advent N270 netbook will not charge. Orange light comes on initially then goes off. Also when I wiggle the plug into the laptop the light flashes on and intermittently.

It sounds like either a bad connection on the motherboard or a broken wire in the adapter making intermittent connection.

1. With the power adapter disconnected, do you have a power light? This would indicate the adapter is good and the plug is questionable.

2. Check your power adapter output with a multi-meter.(be sure to wiggle the wires around) If the power fluctuates, replace the plug.

3. If the power is solid, replace the motherboard connector.

Laptop won't power on with ac adapter or battery

Could be a combination of things.

1) Battery is low. Not enough power to turn the laptop on.
Caused by;

2) AC adapter has a plug on the end of the cable. The plug plugs into a DC Power Jack on the laptop.

The DC Power Jack is bad.

2a) The DC Power Jack has a bad connection to the motherboard, (Cracked solder joints), and/or the jack itself is bad.

2b) Center Pin is loose in the jack's mount.
The back of the Center Pin where it mounts has become loose.

2c) The plastic body of the jack, which composes the jack's case, is cracked. This allows movement of the Center Pin.

2b, and 2c cause a bad connection with the AC adapter plug.

No charge to the Battery, no power to the laptop.

[ If this is the case the DC Power Jack needs to be resoldered to the motherboard. The cracked solder joints need to be re-melted, (Reflowed)
Entire laptop needs to be disassembled down to the bare motherboard in your hand.
(No Processor, Ram Memory, or any adapter cards mounted to the motherboard. Nada)

OR,
The DC Power jack needs to be replaced.
This entails disassembling the entire laptop, down to just the motherboard in your hand. (Same as above)

The old DC Power Jack is de-soldered, and a new one soldered in place.

Very FEW computer repair shops have the necessary skill level.
They just want to replace the entire motherboard.
IF one is available.
More Ka-Ching for them also. ]

3) The AC adapter is bad.
Not providing power to the laptop, to charge the Battery, nor give power to the laptop without the Battery.

AC adapter cord from adapter to plug, which plugs into the laptop, (DC Power Jack), may have a break in it.

May be an intermittent contact provided by wiggling the cord.
If this is the case the wires have stretched, and broken.
Wiggling causes the wires to briefly touch, and make contact.

Where this cord meets the plug itself. A lot of times there is a break in the wires in this area.

Solution is to replace the AC adapter. There are universal AC adapters you can buy, or perhaps Gateway still has some for sale.

I charge my laptop and it shows plugged in but not charging..and charging doesnt last long..why?? and when its charging...it will till 91% and after that it wiil just say not charging....

Take your battery off and plug in the AC adapter, turn on your computer. If it works then you need to replace your battery. If it does not, then you need to replace your ac adapter or your dc jack. It's easy enough to test another ac adapter at your local pc shop. If it is the dc jack then it will involve replacing it. If you can solder then you can purchase one locally or order it on the internet and replace it yourself. If you can't solder then you need to have someone do it for you.

Medion laptop will not start - have checked power leads and battery - have tried starting without the battery in - could the motherboard be the problem and if so what do i need to do

After removing the battery, plug Ac adapter & hold power button for
20 secs. If it doesn't work, check if the Ac adapter with a multimeter. After that if problem continues, check the adapter (port) on the Motherboard if the solder is good. If it's not, you should solder it.
If all the above don't work, so it's probably time to replace motherboard.
Hope it helps. Please send me your feedback & vote to help us help you better.

The pc not turn on, no power

It might be an issue with the adapter, the battery or the AC jack on the motherboard. First up see if your AC adapter's power LED comes on when plugged into a power source. If it does, then check if the Lights at the front of the laptop indicate that the adpater is plugged in. If they light up then it means that the laptop's battery is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the lights dont light up then it means that the AC adapter jack on the laptop has bad solder joints and/or damaged. It is located at the underside of the motherboard where the AC adapter is plugged in. You will need to take the laptop apart and re-solder/replace the jack.

Let me know if you need more help,
Sai.
