Getting no fuel to engine

I have a troy bilt tiller. It will fire up if i put gas in the cylynder head by removing the spark plug. Then it dies and seems to be not getting fuel. The shutoff valve is on and when i push the tickle button on the bottom of the bowl gas comes out. I am not sure how the needle seat attaches to the float or why it is not getting fuel into the engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Rob

Not sure which engine you have, but it sounds like a typical 'need to clean/ repair carburetor' problem. It will probably start up and die the same if you squirt gas in the carb. For whatever reason, varnish, trash, water, the gas is not being pulled up in the carb to keep running. Dwain

Engine will not fire or try to start on my Troy-Bilt Super Tomahawk 2 in 1 Chipper/Shredder, 8 h.p., Tecumseh engine. Getting good spark; changed to new gas; no air blockages found.

If your getting spark no doubt its a fuel problem. Does the inside of the cylinder look wet when you removed the plug. The seals in carb go bad all the time. You need a rebuild kit most likely. Very cheap an easy to do. If its a bowl carb it should be done. Should solve your problem. Starting problems are no spark or no fuel. Carb leak an seal get weaker all the time. Gas the way its made today eats the seals away.

I have an older Troy-Bilt tiller (model & serial # unknown) that when I start it (manual pull) it runs for a second and then shuts off. I checked the spark plug, fuel line and inline filter, fuel, oil...

could be bad coil. does it stay running with choke on? or half on, if so its a gas problem. could be the main jet is plugged in the carb. Or water in the carb bowl. Remove the bowl nut and let some gas run out the put it back in and try it. just guessing as not much info to go on.

Toybilt 75ss won't start

Can you clarify the problem? What is the engine doing? Does it fire and die, or won't start at all. Does it have spark? Is fuel getting into the carb?

Troy bilt mower ran fine then died and now it wont start back. It has fire and a new spark plug. It gets fuel past the filter. It starts if i put a small amount of gas into the intake. Whats wrong? My...

Remove the air filter and set aside.
Take a can of carburetor cleaner and spray the inside of the carburetor.
Let it set for a moment and then try starting the engine. It should run a few seconds. Repeat. When it starts squirt a small shot of cleaner in the carburetor to keep it running. That should remove the varnish the gas leaves as it evaporates over the winter.

If it still won't keep running then there is trash in the float bowl plugging the needle valve seat and the jets.

1) Turn off the gas or remove the gas line and plug it with a small screw or stick to keep it from leaking out of the gas tank.
2) Look on the bottom of the bowl for a nut .
3) Remove the nut and drop the float bowl.
4) Carefully remove the pin holding the float and needle valve assembly.
5) Take the carburetor cleaner with the straw it comes with and spray every hole in the carburetor to clean the jets . (up through the needle valve seat, down top of the carburetor , see a hole, spray it with the cleaner.)
6) Clean the float bowl.
7) Reassemble and make sure the gas isn't leaking and try to start it again.

Troy Bilt Rear tine tiller model 643 Bronco, won't start,it ran out of gas, put in new gas and it started but wouldn't stay running. Put in new spark plugs, cleaned filters, changed out gas, still won't...

did it run out of gas when you added gas it could be that the fuel line has plugged up with something from the bottom of the tank take the fuel line off and try blowing threw it and take a air hose and blow out the carb and carb cleaner

Old (1981)Troy Prof. 8hp tiller runs 30 sec. and stops.

Clean the carb and if this machine was kept outside all winter make sure no water in tank. I realize you stated that you removed old gas but how it was removed is the key. Try the carb thing first though.

Brand new , won't start, no spark at plug, switch ok

If you know for sure that it's not getting fire, then I would take it back to where you purchased it. It sounds as if it has a bad ignition module.

Troy Bilt Tiller and Pressure Washer

The carbs are plugged. Take the bowl off the carburetor by loosening the nut on the bottom. You'll want to clamp the fuel line before you do this. That nut has a small hole that goes through the nut from side to side, and one that connects them in the center. Use a wire brush to knock all the deposits loose, making sure that the holes are clean and free of obstruction. Put it all back together, and it should run fine.

Troy-Bilt Tuffy 2006 model keeps having weird engine problems

Make sure you haven't used ethanol-blended gas in a briggs small engine. It will destroy the plastic internal carb pieces, thereby causing your carb to leak gas into the crankcase and flooding out the engine. If you check your gas it will be really thinned out, gassy smelling and black. It will also be overfilled.
