Question about Kenmore 659 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Push to start switch only works when held in.

Also have lost heat. I have a new push to start switch, but can't figure out how to open up the housing to get to the old switch to replace it. Kenmore model # 11060992990. Was wandering if the push to start switch has anything to do with the no heat problem too.

Go thru the back to access the push to start via 1/4 inch screws. More than likely the push to start isnt the problem with the heat issue. i would lean towards the motor relay and the heater relays that are on this unit

SOURCE: push to start switch only works when held in.

Hi, THe control panel has an end cap that needs to be popped off. Just pull the end cap from the top and it should release. Then you will find a screw on each end that needs to be removed. Now the control panel will raise up and rest on the hinges.
This switch should not have an effect on heating.
Remove the front lower front panel and you can test the heating element. Check voltage to the element and you should get 240V. If there is now voltage, check each of the thermostats and the fuse for continuity. If the thermostats or fuse have no continuity, replace it.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Samsung dryer won't spin, belt is fine

I had the same problem after 1 year, about 20 days after the warranty ran out, go figure. Anyway, check the thermostat on the blower housing (take the lint duct off the back and it's all the way in the front, mine had two brown wires on it, the one next to it is the thermistor (aka, what controls the heating element)). I had the problem that after I pushed start, I could hear the drum motor relay and heater relay kick on, and the timer would count down, but it would not spin or heat up. I measured the thermostat and the tech data said it should be <1 ohm, mine was an open circuit, took the it out of the housing and as I figured there was lint balled up on the inside of the blower housing on the screws that held the thermostat in place, so no airflow over the thermostat to keep it "cool" and it blew the fuse inside. I measured all other thermostats, switches and the heating element and everything was in spec. Ran a jumper and the dryer started right up (careful if you try, lint flies all over and heating element will kick on so be ready to stop it). $9 part through my local supply house. Samsung customer service basically told me it needed to have a repair service schedule because I'm too stupid to fix it.

GE dryer starts but..... stops

What you describe is either a failed evenheat board or a failed motor relay.
Please post the complete model number from the machine and I can help you narrow it down. There should be a wiring diagram inside the console with voltage checks also.
Thanks/Mike

The problem is usually caused by a blown thermal fuse. Disconnect power then access and bypass the thermal fuse on the blower housing. The blower housing is located on the rear left bottom.

Bypass the thermal fuse by disconnecting the wires and connecting them together. Insulate them properly and plug the dryer back in. The thermal fuse is indeed blown and needs to be replaced if the dryer starts. Do not use the dryer with the thermal fuse bypassed due to fire hazards.

Monitor the water level in the boiler. Check and make sure there is not a water leak anywhere in the system from the boiler to the house. If one of the lines is leaking it could cool off the supply line lowering the water temp.

I don't believe replacing the switch is going to fix the problem. provided the power cord is wired correctly you have a control board issue. Their is a small micro computer in the the console that will cause your exact concern start while holding the button the stops, and no heat.

Clothes Dryer won't stay on after switch is depressed.

some of them dryers have a switch other than the push button located behind the console. it also has an identical heat switch beside it. if that holding switch is bad it will not stay running. of the two identical switches the run switch is on the left. good kuck.

Kenmore Elite 73942 Gas Dryer only runs with start button held

Unplug the dryer. Open the control console.Mark and remove the wires from the start switch.
Using a volt meter set for continuity, touch meter leads to R1 and R2 while pushing the switch. No reading is a bad switch.
Touch meter leads to R2 and CT1. No reading is a bad switch.
If the switch checks out good the start windings in the motor are bad.
