Creative Zen Sleek Photo 20GB

My Zen wont turn on at all.  It wont even charge!  When I plug it in to charge, the power button wont illuminate!!  It was never dropped or the victim of water/moisture damage.  Is all hope lost or does anyone know of a way to help me?  Unfortunately its out of warranty.  Thanks.

my creative zen sleek photo in off, not tourn on, this problem after desconet of my pc

  • hayleylouise Feb 05, 2008

I have the same problem - out of the blue it has just stopped working - at first it got stuck and I could not turn it off or opperate the player at all. I tried pushing a pin in the reset button and this did not work so I tried charging the battery which did not help and when I connected the player to my PC apparently the "device was not connected".

I don't know what else to do, am really upset as up till now I have been really happy with my MP3 and have never mis-treated it in any way. I have had it for 18 months and the most annoying thing of all is that this model cost around £125 - money which I cannot afford just to throw away on a product which I can no longer use.

If you can suggest anything which may help then I would appreciate it - I have had little luck getting any useful advise via the Creative technical support email. I was simply going to return it to Creative but cannot even obtain their UK or Europe address!

    Thank you

It's probably too late for your nees but for future users, push a pin into the rest hole on the bottom of the player while AT THE SAME TIME holding down the play and power buttons. Yes, I know you need three hands to do this. That should bring up a recovery screen Try "Clean-up" on that screen.

Is the charger ok? If it wont start perhaps the battery's flat. If the light doesn't come on perhaps it's telling you that the charger's had it. Check for volts at the plug if you can. If you can't, try the charger in another Zen or get a friend with a multimeter to check that the charger is delivering volts.

Check 2 things.

1.) I have a zen sleek photo and ran into the same problem. It took me a long time to figure out what happened. Check the charger, specifically the part that plugs into the wall. You will notice that it is actually 2 pieces. If you jar it, it can come apart and will hardly be noticeable. If you push the 2 pieces back together, it should start working.

2.) Also check to make sure that the power cord is fully plugged in the adapter that plugs into the mp3 player.

My 2 cents on the unit, I wish I never bought it. Too many mechanical and software problems with it. Next time I will buy an apple. My fast forward button stopped working and my unit wont do a system disc scan, it just locks up.

Getting out of recovery mode

The recovery tool mentioned above is not designed for the sleek photo. You need to download the firmware for the sleek photo from creative's site. Now we need to get your player recognized to get the firmware loaded. If you have Windows Media Player 11, it needs to be removed. Also remove WMP runtime. After that, restart the pc and your player should be recognized. You can then double click on the firmware program to run it. It might say something like, this firmaware is already you want to reload it? Click yes to reload.

I had the same problem with my sleek photo. Once I got rid of WMP and the runtime everything worked like a charm.

Computer stopped recognizing USB cord from Zen sleek photo

The first problem is probably a software incompatibility between Creative's software and Windows Media Player version 11. The second problem is possibly a need to replace the battery. 3rd party batteries are about 20 dollars now.

My mp3 player wont work

ok! easy solution for you^^ 1) Make sure your Zen is powered OFF. if the blue light is on and won't turn off, here's what you do: set the hold button at the top of the player to the ORANGE position, then hold your power button for 3 seconds. the keypad will flash and your player will power down. 2) push in the reset button with a pin or other fine implement. the reset button is located on the bottom of the unit, right next to the connector. your player should power up as normal now. charge it fully! your computer should be able to read it during it's charge as long as you leave it powered on^^ I hope this helps you^^

Mp3 wont turn on

wont respond to anything, try this, plug it in to the computer, hold the power switch in the on position, THEN trigger the reset button, worked like a charm for mine, I had thought it a lost cause."try the Reload Firmware option from the Recovery Mode menu? It makes a huge difference!

Seeing as how you can access Recovery Mode, can perform its disk operations, and seeing as how your computer does recognize it, it seems there's a good chance it's simply firmware corruption causing your problem.

Zen sleek frozen after trying to delete songs

Why does technology make you work for what you already paid good money for? Have you tried going into Recovery Mode? You do this by holding down the Play/Pause button while triggering the Reset button. Once there, you have four options. Try selecting Disk Cleanup and then Reboot. You might need to re-Sync a few things but it's worth a shot. Good luck.
