Question about HP Scanjet 5470c Flatbed Scanner

Scanner is stopping during scan cycle

In 4 hours I have managed just 3 successful scans. At each stage of the process the scanner will stop and I will get the error message on the computer screen "Sorry, scanner could not be initialized." This happened most frequently on the initial scan but would also happen when doing the final scan and again when trying to save the final scan. I have hooked up the scanner to 2 separate laptop computers (one ME and one XP) and the result is similar for both computers. Only very occasionally will each stage of the scan work and lead to a satisfactory saved scan, so it must be an intermittent fault.

    Both software drivers were from the same source. I like your suggestion, thank you. That said I have found a solution and that is to use Microsoft's inbuilt software which works fine with the HP scanner.

When you tried it on other lmachines did you load software from same source? If its a software driver problem, you can uninstall the one you have and then try getting a new copy from hp website and reinstall fresh.
If there are any known issues or updates, then the current version will be best anyway and may solve the problem.
Probably not much you can do if its a harware problem, unless its under warranty.

    I have a very similar probelm with my HP5470. I know it is a hardware problem and is caused by the scan carriage not moving at the correct speed (and at times not moving at all). I am suspecting that the problem is either the driver for the stepping motor or the drive circuitry for the stepping motor. I have no schematics or manuals and am having trouble diagnosing it further.

How can i stop the squelch ive tryed turning the sqcuelch doesnt help

Plug the AC adapter into the back of the scanner and into a wall electrical outlet. Screw the antenna into the receptacle on the back of the scanner (extend the antenna to full length for best reception).

  • 2 Set the squelch level to allow signals to be heard by turning the squelch knob counterclockwise. Rotate the volume knob clockwise until you hear static. Slowly turn the squelch knob clockwise until the static noise disappears.
  • 3 Start programming frequencies into the scanner by pressing the "Manual" button.
  • 4 Press the up arrow or down arrow key until the channel you wish to program is visible on the display.
  • 5 Use the numbers on the keypad to enter the frequency for the local transmitter you wish to receive.
  • 6 Press the "E" key to complete the process of entering the frequency.
  • 7 Repeat steps 3 through 6 for each additional frequency you wish to monitor.
  • 8 Press the "Scan" key to start the scanning process. The scanner stops on a channel when it detects a signal strong enough to hear over the squelch setting. Two seconds after the signal stops, the scanning process resumes.

    My scanner doesn't communicate with my computer but my printer does

    Hi, there are many possibilities why your scanner is undetected by your computer. It can be its logical connection, scanner driver or the scanner itself.

    If you have Windows operating system, please check Device Manager. In the Device Manager please check for the following:
    1. Any yellow or red X's, question marks or exclamation marks related to the scanner.
    2. Under the Category of Imaging Devices - Check for Epson Product name.

    If IMAGING DEVICES is listed, test the scanner from PAINT as follows.
    If IMAGING DEVICES is not listed then the scanner is not being recognized. Try another USB port or cable until the scanner shows up in the Device Manager. (The scanner must be on and connected in order for the computer to recognize it)
    If you see an Imaging Device that points to your Epson Scanner or Unknown Device that has a yellow question mark or exclamation point, you need to update the driver.

    Try to scan in Paint to isolate the issue between your computer and scanner.
    To scan in Paint, do the following:

    2. Click on FILE then select FROM SCANNER OR CAMERA.
    3. Choose COLOR PICTURE.
    4. Scan.

    If it does not work, it is possible your Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is not started.

    To restart this process please follow the steps listed bellow.

    1. Click on Start > Control Panel > Administrative tools
    2. Double-click on Services to access the list of available services.
    3. In the Services window scroll down to the bottom and double-click on the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Service.
    4. Select the STOP option.
    5. Click the START option to restore the service.
    6. Try scanning again into Paint.

    If it scans fine, try scanning from the application that you normally use. If you are still unable to scan or receive any error messages, try reinstalling the scanner driver or software.

    If you have Macintosh operating system, please check Apple System Profiler if your scanner is properly detected. The reinstall the scanner driver.

    If your scanner is still undetected, please contact your scanner manufacturer for any possible driver updates.

    BC72XLT scanner does not stop on some programmed channels while scanning. My other scanner will read the transmission. The numbers indicating banks 1 and 3 aare not visable during scan, are they locked...

    what it is because that your other banks are locked out and thats why it by passes your frequencies...unlock your banks and it will stop on the transmissions...

    Why does my HP 1500 prints a test page every time I begin touse it???

    As soon as the printer prints the test page or alignment page place it on the scanner glass (Place the printed side down) before that Examine the scanner glass and white scan backing. Clean the scanner glass and scan backing if they are not clean. To clean the scanner glass and scan backing, use a soft cloth towel slightly dampened with clean water.
    After That press scan on the printer button panel it will resolve your issue.
    Try to double check it by turning it off and turning the printer back on after 2 minute's. If still the problem exists call HP Total Care 800 - 474 - 6836 if you are from US/Canada.
    ) Lift the lid of the product.
    2) Place the top of alignment page face down in the right front corner of the glass.
    3) Place the alignment page face down
    4) Close the lid.
    5) Press the Start Scan button.
    6) The Power button light will blink during the alignment process.

    DR-9080C intermittent stops during scanning which last 3 to 5 minutes

    Do you have enough hard disk space? Reinstall your driver software. Run Scandisk on the Comp.

    Is the problem coming on after a set time interval, any heating smell?

    Scanner not responsive. You can choose to have the document scanned to your PC but nothing happens and either location.

    Hi, we need to check first if this issue is caused by the scanner it self or by the scanner driver. Please try the following to check if your scanner is physically functioning or not:

    Basic Copying
    1. Open the scanner lid.
    2. Place your document face-down on the glass. Move your document about 0.1 inch from the top and side edge so your entire document is scanned.
    3. Close the scanner lid.
    4. Be sure the COPY button is lit. The default copy settings are displayed on the control panel.
    5. Press the Color Copy button (for color copies) or B&W Copy button (for black and white copies). Your document is scanned and then printed.
    Note: Depending on the copy settings chosen, your copied image size may not be the exact same size as your original.
    If the image was successfully copied please uninstall the scanner driverm download the latest driver in and install it. Try scanning.

    If the issue still present we will need to ensure the scanner is being recognized correctly. Have you had any other scanners installed on the computer previously? We would suggest checking the DEVICE MANAGER for any conflicts.

    Get to the Device Manager by:
    1. Right-Clicking on MY COMPUTER
    2. Left-click on PROPERTIES.
    3. Click on the HARDWARE tab, then DEVICE MANAGER.
    In the Device Manager please for the following:
    1. Any yellow or red X's, question marks or exclamation marks.
    2. Under the Category of Imaging Devices - Check for Epson Product name.
    If IMAGING DEVICES is listed, test the scanner from PAINT.

    To scan in paint:
    3. Choose COLOR PHOTO.
    4. Scan.

    It is also possible your Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is not started.

    To start this process please follow the steps listed bellow.
    1. Click on Start, go to Control Panel.
    2. In the Control Panel window you will Performance and Maintenance, please left click that option.
    3. Next we are looking for Administrative Tools, please left click on that option.
    4. We are looking for the Services icon please left on that icon.
    5. In the Services window we are going to scroll down to the bottom and look for the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Service, Please Right click it with your right mouse button.
    6. We want to select the STOP option with your left mouse button.
    7. Next we want to Right click on the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service again and select the START option with your Left mouse button please.
