Question about Whirlpool 21.0 cu. ft. Top Freezer Refrigerator with IceMagic Plus Ice Maker
I have a Whirlpool refrigerator model ET20NK with automatic ice maker. Lately the ice maker isn't dumping as frequently as is it used to. Like only once a day now, even with an empty holding tray. When it does dump, the cubes are usually clumped at least 4 together. Plus any ice in the holding tray seems to thaw somewhat and then refreeze into one large chunk. It is an auto defrost. This is the first time we have had a problem with this fridge. What do you advise? Thank you for your helpd.
The first thing I would check is the cleanliness of the condenser coil under the fridge. Make sure the fan under there is running, and that the coil is clear of dust. The ice maker requires 15 degrees for a period of time before it will make ice and dump. If the temp in the freezer is colder than this, then it is likely the ice maker needs replaced. They can be replaced fairly easily with just a couple tools. (1/4" nut driver and a flat screw driver). There is a plug where it plugs into the freezer side wall, and a bent tube that supplies water to the tray. If not sure what to do, have a service tech look at it.
