Question about Televison & Video
There are three projection units in the back. Each projects to its own color, Red, Green and Blue.
One of the follow may have happened:
1. The adjustments for one of the colors is slightly off, thus more blue is coming through.
2. The blue projector is off, or it has sustained some sort of damage.
3. A bit of debris has collected in such a manner as to refract a line from the blue or cuts off the projection from Red and Green.
4. The mirror in the rear has a crack.
Most late model project models project from the front to the read of the cabinet where the light is reflected onto the screen via a mirror. That mirror is very fragile and somewhat large. It can (and does) collect a lot of dust and debris.
First try to auto focus the TV:
Most later model project-type TV's have an auto focus feature via the menu, what it will do is align the projectors, going through a few test patterns. The alignment is internal, not actually moving the projector - this is usually all that is needed.
Your Owners manual may have helpful information on how to physically align the projectors. Or it may specifically state you need to have it serviced.
Before you call for service you can do some cleaning inside the box.
Unplug the TV, unhook cables and stuff that will interfere with your opening up the back
On ours we have bolts/screws around the top and sides at the rear, we also have to take off the speaker covers and remove a few very long screws.
Once all of the screws are off, there are tabs at the bottom, front which have to be depressed to allow the back bottom to be pulled out (toward the rear) from there one needs to be behind the TV and lift the bottom up slightly to take it off of a couple of holders.
Once the back is off it becomes clear of just how much debris can affect the picture.
Cleanse the lenses gently with a soft cotton cloth - old torn up t-shirt material is wonder for this. You should be able to get most of the debris/dust off being dry.
On the back cover (that you took off) there will be mirror - that should be cleansed with a non-streak Solution. You will be amazed at the clarity of the image after a cleaning. These cabinets are not air tight and a lot of dust gets on everything, doing odd things to the image, beyond making everything dimmer and fussy, things like making streaks, or lines across the image (in the case of cat hair), causing the color to be off true.
If cleaning the lenses and the mirror does not work and you can not see an easy way to realign the projectors, then call a service person who will have the tools and the experience to align them quickly. 6 Pts Rate Answer
