Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this... Anyway, a few days ago my DVD drive icon on my laptop disappeared... I am running Vista Home Premium (32 bit i think) on a Toshiba Satellite Laptop. When i ran Device Manager, under DVDCD Rom Drives, all of the drivers having a warning sign on then (the yellow triangle with an exclamation mark) Heres what I have: HL-DT-SL DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA Device When I go to Properties for the HL-DT-SL under General, in Device Status I get the message... "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19) Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available." If I run Check for Solutions, it does something for a few seconds and just stops. Restarting doesn't fix my issue If I check to update drivers, it says I am up to date. But I have a feeling that my drivers are corrupt or something. I am sort of afraid if I uninstall the CD drivers, I won't be able to fix it. Anyone know what I can do? Gerald Parduhn . Same Prob Here with a NEW HP DV7-1130us Laptop 19inch After running some hardware driver update thru winupdate' the system rebooted and every other warez loaded proceeded to tell me it existed no more.. I followed some of the above mentioned steps to no avail. The First time it happened I called HP support, the had me flush a cache of some kind, still looking for it the tech was very short and not very informative, just in a real big hurry. yo dont do that to people. anyways i will post the proper fix. but as to why its happening... Having worked for HP and delt with a fair share of firmware revision Number issues, im sure thats all it is.. the hardware wants to use a device named XXXXX fw# XX rev XX some of these factors cannot change or the bios gets gets mad,. . not to mention vista not being able to identify the device. .. if it was up to me and I WILL TRY I'm going to ask for a device swap with HP and shoot for either an upgrade to Dual layer or just a new firmware revision... since we cant yet flash such devices.. back soon i hope.. III
YOU MIGHT TRY FIXYA.COM AND LOCATE UPPER AND LOWER FILTER FIX. VISTA HAS THIS PROBLEM AFTER ONE OF ITS UPDATES. REMOVING THE FILTERS IN THE REGISTRY USUALLY (UNCOVERS) THE DRIVE AGAIN.
