Under the strap is a DV Connector on the camera.  That is a firewire port to connect to a computer.  You'll need a "4-pin to 6-pin" firewire cable (Best Buy, any computer store - $20) to connect up the camera to your computer.  If it's a Mac, you're all set - iLife/iMovie is all you'll need, and all Macs have the correct firewire port.  If you're on Windows, you'll need to make sure you have a firewire card installed (again about $30 at Best Buy if you need one), but you'll also need the appropriate software...
Another way of doing it on a Windows PC is to get a USB Video Capture device and hook up the red/white/yellow RCA cables from the AV In/Out port of the camera to the USB device.  Most you buy today have the appropriate software to help you transfer.  Sorry, it's really not that simple - it can get quite confusing, but feel free to try it and post any specific questions you may have.  Good luck!!

Download PV-GS39 cam recorder drivers

Hello. I also have the PV-GS39. I had the same problem as you have, here is what I DID to resolve my problem.

1.Go to: http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/support/Cameras-Camcorders/Camcorders/MiniDV-Camcorders/Drivers-Downloads/model.PV-GS39.D

the above link will take you RIGHT to the web page to download the PV-GS39 Software & Drivers that YOU WILL HAVE TO HAVE. But if you have WINDOWS VISTA then you can use the WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER software that is ALREADY PRE-INSTALLED on your PC then you will NOT have to download the software from the above link.

2. You HAVE TO have a: FIREWIRE IEEE 1394 PCMCIA NOTEBOOK CARD. I got mine at: Best Buy for: $53.86 with taxes. the name of this card is: DYNEX FIREWIRE IEEE 1394 PCMCIA NOTEBOOK CARD.

3. You ALSO hae to buy the CORD that connects to the PV-GS39 and the DYNEX FIREWIRE IEEE 1394 PCMCIA NOTEBOOK CARD, the cord costs $36.79 ALSO at Best Buy.

I did ALL 3 of the above and now I'm copying my movies and videos from my tape in my camcorder onto my PC and BURNING the video onto DVD/CD Disks.

If you have any questions, you can email me at: uggyredmonster@comcast.net.

Sincerely,

Camcorder panasonic displays dew detect in red

Eject the tape. Leave the tape carriage open. Power the unit off and tent it with a light linen cloth for about 20 minutes in a warm but obviously low humidity area. Emergency/ short time approach: Clean hair blow-dryer. Set for warm/low heat. Turn on and "wave" the warm air into the tape mechanism section about 18 to 12 inches away from the camera's open gate/door. Bake for 3-5 minutes..

Panasonic NV-GS60 with horizontal lines appear on screen

Clean the heads(use the specified cleaning tape sparingly).
Change tape. Using Panasonic video tape? It sounds like no. You might get by with Sony... Try Panasonic.
The tapes are different thickness, durability and therefore suitability for cameras. Try to get ME -type tape( metal evaporated) instead of MP( metal particle) as the particles tend to flake off more readily. The blue often means no signal(video) was recorded in that space(on the tape). Let me know it it helps.

PV GS39 Win XP Movie Maker

I don't know if Windows XP Movie Maker can detect a firewire based video camera.

Do you have DVD burning software such as Nero in your computer? That has capture capability to it.

Pinnacle Studio will detect a firewire camera. It is reasonably priced and easy to use. In fact you can control your camcorder from Studio in case you need to rewind or fast forward the tape.

My advice is that you should by a DV cleaning cassette. Put this in the camera and run it for 10 to 20 seconds only. running the cleaning cassette for a long time may damage the head.
good luck!
