Question about Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

The oven lights (both top and oven) start to buzz suddenly when not in use. I turn off the lights only to have them turn on and buzz at any time. I have unplugged the 220 and let it set for overnight and re-plug the oven back in. After a way (no specific interval) the lights are on and the buzzing starts up. I can turn the lights off but they recycle back on right away,

Sounds like a problem with the starter.

if you flip up the top, where your light is. remove the lamp
underneath there is a silver cylinder thing with a hole in the middle of the top. that is the starter.
grip it firmly and turn 1/4 turn counter clockwise to remove.
sometimes a quick flick or 2 will bring it back. but often it must be replaced

Perhaps this is a warning buzzer to tell you you have to set the clock?
It also could be a fan.

Ge microwave jvm160wj01 was working and suddenly started buzzing, gave bad electric/burnt smell and buzzes. Still buzzes and does not seem to heat now.

Sounds like the magnetron just shorted out. Its the part the generates the microwaves that heat the food. Buzzing sounds are a symptom of a shorted mag. Usually not worth fixing since the magnetron costs almost as much as a new oven. Sorry.

My Microwave flickers and buzzes

This problem normaly happens when the door is not closed properly for a long time and flashing and buzzing starts to give user a indication for same. Allthough it is not risky as microwave oven has safty door switches wich does not allow oven to operate while door is open. Take care and close the door properly before you leave kitchen..

Microwave makes loud buzzing sound when on and no heat

Have you tried putting a cup of water in it and cooking on a low power level? If it buzzes only when it is on the cook cycle, that would narrow it down. More detals might help us help you, including the model number.

Microwave works with door open

If the top is open, the upper door switch should be open and the high voltage section should not be energized. That's the way it's *supposed* to work. But that buzzing is worrysome! Does the turntable turn during this condition? Does the inside light come on? How about the fan? If not, then I would doubt that it's cooking. If so, some models will do this. It's not uncommon to notice that the fan and light will try to come on for a split second when you shut the door. This would not indicate a problem. It has to do with the timing of the door switches and a replay on the board. If it's still under full warranty, it wouldn't hurt to call a GE-authorized servicer.
