Question about FastMac (APP-5693) for PowerBook G4 Titanium Burner
Help! I insert a cd or dvd in the slot.... makes a weird sound twice... then spits it out. Is the cd / dvd burner player toasted? Can I fix it or should I just get an external burner player drive? Thanks, DB PowerBook G4 -all discs float in optical slot where they used to get "sucked in" and then read by hard drive -did some of the reboots and "type in" OS commands -did not install or uninstall anything new -no existing disc in slot
Yes, it sounds like the disk transport mechanism is shot. You can try www.macsales.com for a replacement internal, but those are usually a) pricey and b) a REAL pain to install (LOTS of small parts and such) - www.ifixit.com has real nice tear-down guides for just this purpose. Or, for lots cheaper, you could just use an external drive. Good chance to upgrade to a faster drive/one with more features. Go for a bus-powered one to cut down on the extra cords.
