Original cartridge ran low but I didnt change it straight away as I didn't need to print anything for a while. Next time I switched the printer on, it says that there is no colour cartidge in although it obviosly was. Tried a brand new cartridge and still the same message. Will not recognise a cartridge in the right hand holder. Any ideas? tried all the error clearing solutions I can find but no joy.

Leaving the cartridge out for an extended period is never a good idea, but it shouldn't be fatal. Make sure you put the photo cartridge in the black slot - not the color one. If the problem persists, you might want to reload the driver for that printer from the website.

Printer wont print colours supply levels were ok but just installed new cartridges but still wont print colours. What to do????

Make sure that you're using genuine Lexmark cartridges. If you are, try the steps below:

- Update the firmware of your printer. Just go to to download the firmware update.
- Perform a maintenance on the cartridges. To do that, on the control panel of your printer, press on Setup > Maintenance > Deep Clean Printhead.

If you still have the same problem after performing those steps, it could be a problem with the printhead. You might want to contact Lexmark's technical support.

My Lexmark 4350 wont recognise a new colour cartridge why?

Please make sure the back plate is clean inside your printer. That the place where to contact points sits. Check the back of the cartridge aswell to insure all contacts are clean. If it still comes up with the error change the cartridge otherwise its a board or caridge wich you cant get new spares for.

I have a Lexmark X6690 and bought new Lexmark print cartridges today - Black and Colour. The printer is recognising the colour cartridge but not the black one. Driving me nuts!! Please help x

Try to reseat the black cartridge. If that doesn't help, try to clean the cartridge nozzles. On the printer operator panel > press Setup button > Maintenance > Clean Cartridges > Ok. Your printer will then print a page, forcing ink through the nozzles to clean them. Try to print again. You may also try to insert a different known working black cartridge to determine if the other is faulty. If your new cartridge is faulty, return it to the purchase store (if within return period) or contact Lexmark technical support for assistance.

Colour ink failing

Remove the ink cartridges and clean the sensor below them.

Possibly ink on the blocking the sensor from reading the poper ink level.

After that put the cartridges back in and then go to printers on your PC and right-click the printer on the screen and try to locate a cleaning process or if you have software installed for the printer, run it through there.

Do it a few times if need be and then check the ink level.

Head cleaning it's normally called.

If it doesn't work, then the printer might simply need replacing.
