Heating element on frigidaire dryer keep burning out


How many times???

Did you replace the Heating element with the housing or did you purchase the coil and ran through the old element housing. If you did the latter, make sure it will not touch the element housing and short out. This case you will see a black burn spark on the housing close to the element broken point. Did you lock in the heating element ends to the ceramic plate.

The heating circuit is composed not just by the heating element alone but also the high-limit thermostat located on the heating element housing including the four-terminal cycling thermostat on the blower housing and the motor centrifugal switch. The most prudent thing to do first when a heating problem is experienced is by checking the continuity of these parts and making sure the dryer is getting 220VAC supply. Note that the dryer works both on 110VAC for the controls and drive motor while the 220VAC is solely for the heating circuit. The 110VAC supply may be present which will make the dryer run but the 220VAC may not be present and consequently there's no heat at all.

Check the circuit breaker including the power outlet and make sure the dryer is being supplied with 220VAC. Check the continuity of the components located on the blower housing and the heating element housing. All of those components must have continuity for the heating element to turn on. Note that the cycling thermostat has four terminals. Continuity check must be done between the two outer and "thick" terminals. Replace the part found to have no continuity and as a preventive measure, it is necessary to also replace the other part that comes side-by-side with the faulty part.

The next thing to check is going to be the HIGH LIMIT THERMOSTAT it fits onto the outside of that round housing where the element is.To check it DISCONNECT POWER TO DRYER open up the dryer as you did to replace the heat element and remove the 2 wires from it,use a multimeter set a low ohms rating and check thermostat for continuty with ZERO ohms resistiance on the 2 terminals on that t-stat. IF that t-stat checks good, next check the cycling t-stat in same manner. IT's going to be in the housing where the blower wheel goes and not on the round housing. If that too checks to be good replace timer

I am trying to take the back off of my Whirlpool clothes dryer model LEQ8611LW1 to replace the heating element, but the back will not come off. How do I get to the heating element?


The dryer doesn't have a removable rear access panel and the heating element is accessible through the bottom front panel. Using a flat-blade screwdriver, locate and release the two bottom front panel clips approximately 4 inches from the sides.

Once the panel is off, locate the heating element housing is on the right side and remove the hex-head screw from the heater shield.

Remove the hex-head screw from the side of the heater housing and slide the heating element out then slide the new heating element in and secure it with the hex-head screw.

Note:

The heating element is not necessarily busted and needs to be replaced when the dryer fails to heat up. The first thing to look at is the thermal cut-off. It blows open and cut power to the heating element if the high-limit thermostat is faulty. Disconnect the red wire from the thermal cut-off and the red/white stripe wire from the heater. Connect the red wire disconnected from the thermal cut-off to the heater terminal where the red/white stripe wire is disconnected from.

Reconnect power then start the dryer. The problem is indeed with the two bypassed components if the dryer heats up. Replace both the thermal cut-off and the high-limit thermostat and it should solve the heating problem. Do not use the dryer with those parts bypassed due to high risk of fire hazards.

How do I replace a heating element in a Roper clothes dryer? I get no resistance across the element with my ohm meter so I assume the element has been broken or burned in two. I can not find a way to...


I am not really familiar with your particular model number but most roper dryers have the heating element in a thin metal housing that is rectangular. The housing is part of the heating element and comes with the new one. Usually you just take the screws out of the outside of the housing and it comes right out. I hope this helps.

How do you replace the heat element on a whirlpool LER8648 dryer?


Before replacing the heating element, check first the continuity of the thermal cut-off and the high-limit thermostat located on the heater box, the resistance of the heating element, and the continuity cycling thermostat located on the blower housing. Replace the heating element only when it reads open. Replace both the thermal cut-off and the high-limit thermostat should any one of them is found open. The cycling thermostat must have continuity between its thicker terminals; otherwise, replace it.

All of the above components are accessible through the rear of the dryer. Remove the rear panel by removing the screws securing i to the dryer cabinet. Replace the heating element by removing the screws attaching its housing to the heater box then securing the new heating element housing in place.

Replace heating element for Duet Dryer GEW9200LW1


First disconnect the power to the dryer by unplugging it from the wall. Then remove the 3 screws on the lower panel of the dryer. This should expose the heating element in a metal housing on the right side of the dryer. Disconnect the 2 wires going to the heating element and slide it out of the housing. The heating element part number is 3387747.

If you go to searspartsdirect.com, type in your model number in the Search menu, then look under the "Bulkhead" menu option, you will see an illustration of your dryer. You will need to remove the heater box cover (item #5) to get to the heating element. The element should slide out of the bottom of the heater box housing. Removing the housing from the dryer first makes it easier. Sometimes you may need a little muscle in getting the heater coil to come out.

Have you checked the thermal cut-out(TCO)/hi limit thermostat? This is item #1 in the drawing. If your dryer runs, but does not heat, this is normally the culprit. You are right to assume you could have a heating element problem, but the element tends to be more resilient. In my experience with electric dryers, the thermal cut-out tends to go bad first. It's easier to check and easier to replace as it is mounted on the outside of the heater box. Check for the following:

With the heater box STILL installed, the TCO will be a small component mounted at the top of the heater box housing. The hi-limit thermostat will be mounted at the bottom of the heater box housing next to the ceramic terminal of the heating element. With the dryer UNPLUGGED, disconnect the wires to the TCO and do a resistance reading. It should read 0 ohms if good. Do the same with the hi-limit thermostat. It should also read 0 ohms if good. Last of all perform a reading across the leads of the heating element with the wires unplugged. You should get a reading of 9 - 13 ohms if it is good. If you determine the TCO or hi-limit thermostat to be bad, it is HIGHLY recommended that you replace them BOTH at the same time. They are sold as a set (part #279769). Failure to replace both components could result in part failure. The part number for the heating element is 4391960. I hope this helps you.

nestor, on the posted model, you want to drop the lower front panel. Take a puddy knife and push in on the clips on each side and it will pull off. Kill the power to the dryer. On the right you will see the heater housing. The housing will have a front deflector. You can remove that deflector by removing the screw on the bottom or simply just bend it down out of the way. Remove the 2 wires on the left that attach to the element itself. On the left side of the housing there will be a quarter inch screw that holds the element in place. Use a small socket set to get it off. Now the element will pull right out of the housing. Sometimes they are difficult to pull out but it will come out. Did you ohm out that element to make sure that was the culprit? Catriver.
