My screen is getting darker. Think it may be the lamp. Does the lamp go out all at once or does it just get dimmer first. Don't want to buy new lamp if it wont fix problem. Thanks

I bought an open box unit at Best Buy, it had no remote or manual. Go to http://www.zenithservice.com/, click on owner's manuals, answer the 4 questions using drop down menus and then you can download an owner's manual and save it to your computer/burn it to a CD/print it out. If you choose to print it out, beware, the manual is 60 pages. One of the 4 questions they ask is "Product", choose Projection TV, not LCD TV. The 4th question is "Model Number", mine is E44W46LCD, is guess everyone's here is the same, duh.
For the remote, I looked in the phone book for an authorized Zenith TV repair company. I called them and gave the model number and paid over the phone. I had the remote shipped to my home address. The total including tax and shipping was $50. The remote they sent is a large Zenith mulit-function #6710v00102k. I don't know if that is the remote that would have came with the TV, it worked without having to program it first. It can control TV/VCR/Cable/DVD/Sat. I t has controls for 6 inputs, SAP, mute, Surf, Video, Picture in Picture, Ratio (16:9, 4:3, Zoom, etc), CC, Freeze, Menu, and controls for DVD and VCR (rewind, play, etc). If you can't find a place in your area to get the remote, Email me at [email protected] and I'll look up where I got mine from. It came from Palm Desert, CA.
I don't know about your TV not coming on, is it plugged in? If it is, that's about all I've got. Gregg
SOURCE: PICTURE IS GETTING DARKER AND DARKER
Hi,
Without more information, assuming its a Halide lamp, and the viewing angle of the TV hasn't also got worse I would say yes and quickly, if the image has degraded badly the lamp is close to failure which could cause further damage.
Although only a guide as some lamps last longer than others you should always keep an eye on the lamp hour counter The manual should tell you how long to expect from a lamp.

I found the location to get at the lamp. If you are loking at the front of the TV there is a small panel at the bottom of the right end. Two screws, remove panel, two screws inside and a small handle that lifts so you can slide the unit out. 4 screws on top of the cage that the lamp sits in, carefully slide up the silver bracket holding the bulb, be careful the edges are sharp. Remove the bulb from bracket and remove the 2 cables attached to the bulb. Now just do the same but in reverse. Make sure you wear plastic gloves that should be provided because if your fingers touch the lense you could be out the price of the lamp.

yes---just take off the side panel---and pull out the bulb bracket---just make sure to not touch the front of the bulb---wear gloves if needed
SOURCE: reseting the end of lamp life indicator
Hold down mute button on remote and enter on TV
at the same time for a few seconds, you should get
a screen promt asking if you want to reset the timer
for the lamp.

I bought the TV in 2005. The orange warning light came on about 1 year ago. But I hadn't noticed it was getting darker till a few weeks ago. So I have been expecting it to go out anytime. But I thought it would just burn out like a regular lamp and go out all at once. Not just get dimmer.
I even ordered the lamp replacement right after I bought the TV knowing it would go out one day. The bad thing is when I pulled the lamp replacement out, it was the wrong lamp. Paper work had right part number, but sticker on lamp box was different. It was a round lamp instead of rectanglar. It's for the DLP, not the LCD. Bought off web and company is now a computor shop. So out of luck on exchange.
Just wanted to make sure it could dim instead of a complete burn out before I spend more money on it. At least the lamp is now over $100 less than I paid two years ago.
Thanks, I think I will order a new lamp now that I know it could be that.
