Yeah, sometimes the flashing doesn't work since these companies don't bother supporting old products. Let me know how it works out for you. Typically giving windows a second chance to recognize something will yield better results.

Have you attempted to remove it from the Add/Remove Hardware wizard, shutting down, removing the IDE cable from the drive, restarting, shutting down, attaching the IDE cable to the drive, starting up, installing firmware/drivers?

Well, I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. It was still worth a try. I have to agree with you. Since it isn't being recognized properly it probably isn't worth the trouble getting it repaired since typically that costs more than buying a new one. If you need to find some good prices on CD/DVD readers & burners you can look online here:

Newegg

Simply navigate to Computer Hardware > CD / DVD Burners & Media. After the page loads simply click, "CD / DVD Burners" located in the menu on the left.

Let me know if I can do anything else for you (posted as a solution so you could rate the responses above).

CD/DVDW ROM drive won't start

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver

you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd restart your computer then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard

if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer
Close all open programs

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

Error with a TSST CD/DVDW TS-L532U.

Try uninstalling the device using device manager. Shutdown computer and restart. If the problem persists then you have a faulty DVD/CD drive.
Go to My Computer and right click, select the Device Manager, search for the drive on the right side. Right click and choose Uninstall. then restart. Hope this helps.

Tsst corp cd/dvdw ts-652d ata device not found

your CD-ROM/DVD-ROMs require no drivers   install Nero and see if it works  if not  check the wiring  if it has IDE cables make sure the jumpers are correct for the situation  make sure they are 80 pin cables not 40 pin and that the poer is plugged into the drives  sometimes if Patin-couffin is installed it may fix things

Try to uninstall your optical drive on device manager and restart your system.

enter in to bios
and make sure it can see the CD drive.

if it can see it ,neither can windoz.

if it cant.
and it is the only CD or dvd drive in DT.
then
set the jumper on the drive to
Master. with the jumper
and make sure cable is plugged in to HDD1 IDE cable. and plug on MB.

try a barrowed ancient cdrom ,see if it identifies.
if it does ,yours is bad.
