To get the phone out of Car-Kit mode you have to get a small piece of aluminum foil, fold it up so it is about 1/2 inch wide, then insert one end into the charge jack on the bottom of the phone. Let the foil come into contact with the two little pins in there. You may to wiggle it a bit to make this happen. The foil will cause a small short to occur and Car-Kit will go away. I just did this on my wife's phone and it worked. Car-Kit mode came back a few times but each time it does, I do this little fix and it works. We'll limp by like this until she can qualify for a discounted new phone in a few months.

Car kit mode means one of two things, first it could have a piece of lint or paper stuck in the charge port making it think there is a car kit plugged in, or second it could be that some moisture got into the port and its giving a indication that something is plugged in. and thats why you're not getting any sound. There is no specific setting to turn on or off 'car kit' mode you can use a paper clip or something and mess with the port a little bit to see if 'car kit' goes away or replace phone
the default is always one of these code try them all the last four digits of the phonenumber last programmed in the phone aka your number or 9999,1234,4321,0000,1111 if none of those work you can go the retail store for a flash they hook it to the computer and push software to the phone to correct the issue it takes five mins and its free its a common issue for them to correct if you change your lock code from the default in the future always set up a dummy contact with it in there so that you can easily look it up also please vote for me I'm trying to work my way up to expert level and I cant without your vote please
you got your phone wet somehow. Take some electrical contact cleaner and spray it on a toothbrush. next clean the charging port on the bottom of the phone. Or another possibility is that you have damaged the pins on your charging port. Sounds like it might be time for an upgrade. good luck.
