Question about Mitsubishi WS-55819 55" Rear Projection Television

Mitsubishi WS-55819 power issue

My 5 year old Mitsubishi WS-55819 projection TV has a power problem. When I press the power button it turns on for about 2 seconds and then turns itself off. The picture doesn't come onto the screen as the power cuts off so quickly. I opened the back and there is a small black diode type thing (possibly a relay) on the middle PC board towards the back that clicks when it turns on and off. Someone suggested a leak from the 3 bulbs could be a cause but I cannot see any leaking substances anywhere. Does anyone have a suggestion to figure out what's wrong? I don't have electrical test equipment for troubleshooting. Thank you... I have a Mitsubishi WS-55819 - does not turn on - have a code of 2-2 - removed center PC board - going to have the IC's changed (STK392-570)- checked fuses F9A04 & 5 (5 amp pico fuse )they are blown changing them also - should I check anything else?? You have been a HUGE help already and thank you very much - Please let me know. Rob

Hi - I actually ordered a new circut board from Mitsubishi for $150.00 (I had to go through many channels to get them to sell it to me)- I installed it and the picture is great but now the sound is crackly and fisrt from the right- then the left - I tap on the IC heatsink and it makes it better & worse or none at all - now I just have left sound that sometimes crackles. I am almost ready for a new TV, if I could only afford it.

I Found it - what is the best way to resolder it - just apply the iron to each pin? or? I am not a very expieranced at soldering - that is why I bought a new board. Thank You , Rob

  • rasct Jun 02, 2009

I will pick up the solder and practice on my old board. Hope to do it tomorrow- will let you know - do you have any favorites as far as irons go? or as to a solder brand - I will probably go to Radio Shack, Rob

No, that'll do it. Once you've changed em you'll know right away if somethin isn't right. But take faith and fire that puppy up. If the pix is good you did good. If something is amiss. I'd be happy to walk you through it. My money is on you though.

The audio output IC is on that board you changed and the solder connections on it are often cracked in shipment. It is labeled IC3E01 and his mounted to a heat sink behind the large heatsink the convergence outputs are mounted to. You just have to repull the board and locate that IC and resolder it. I have seen this before in my own work.

  • hatman1 Jun 02, 2009

Just applying heat to the pins will not work well. There is no flux left over to get the solder to stick properly. Just acquire some rosin core solder, and reapply the solder to each pin making sure you don't bridge any solder to an adjacent pin. Not that hard to do with rosin core solder.

For what you need just get the cheapest soldering pencil around. I use a temperature controlled soldering station but I use it everyday, and it cost around $175. You should be able to get away with a 25 Watt pencil style for less than $15.

Well, you are into the ugly land all of us technicians are very familiar with. You have done everything correctly but something is not right. It sounds like a ground problem somewhere associated with that audio output IC. All I can say at this point is to go over that board with a fine toothed comb and look for cracks or improper connections between that board and the others it is connected to.

My Mitsubishi Medallion tv stays on for about 10 minutes and then shuts down and won't turn back on until a period of time has passed. It is a rear projection tv about 9 years old. Can anyone help ex

When it shuts off and the green power light goes off, press both the menu and input buttons on the front of the set (not the remote) and hold both for about five seconds and release.

Power light will blink a two digit error code like 2 blinks and then 3 blinks and repeat it several times.

What is the error code?

WS-55819 TV, about 8 years old, stopped working. No picture, just black. When trying to turn on, power light appears for a couple seconds, then turns off. No other indications of life. My kids...

When you turn it on and power light goes off in a few seconds;

On the front of the set push and hold both the Menu and Input (Device) buttons for at least 5 seconds and release both.

Power light will then blink a two digit code, most common is 2 blinks, a pause and 2 blinks--it will repeat the code at least 5 times.

Let me know what code you find and I will tell you what it means and maybe what is wrong with your tv.

I hope you find 2,2, as that is the most easy to fix.

If this helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

Mitsubishi WS-55819 HDTV won't power on

At the very least you are not getting any of the Standby power to the Microprocessor (5 vdc). I would concern myself with that area once you get the manual. In the mean time check all the fuses.

Mitsubishi ws-55819

Code 22 indicates that your set is in shut down due to what is called Short Protect. The most likely cause is the Converge Ic's drawing too much current and opening one or 2 fuses. Normal repair cost varies by area and servicer. Expect 250 to 350 plus the service call. I normally do this on site.

Mitsubishi WS-55819 power issue

This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. To activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times. 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source) 1. SHUTDOWN AT POWER WITH SELF DIAGNOSIS ERROR 2 2. CHECK FOR LEAKY C9A60 470 PF 1000 V PART # 154P400030, PARALLEL TO D9A57 ON THE POWER PCB (NOT SHOWN IN THE SCHEMATIC). 2. SHUTDOWN AT POWER WITH SELF DIAGNOSIS ERROR 2 2. CHECK FOR OPEN FUSES F9A04 AND F9A05 PART # 283P043090 ON THE +24 AND -24 VOLT LINES. IF THE FUSES ARE OPEN THE CONVERGENCE OUTPUT CIRCUIT WOULD BE SUSPECT. 3. SELF-DIAGNOSIS INDICATES SHORT PROTECT. Mitsubishi ws-55819 power problem

Hello DaveDaveDave, Ok let's levelset as is said in the business world today. it looks like you have an overcurrent protection problem which means that the tv set has a component that is causing excessive current to be drawn. Now this can be caused by a component withc has become "leaky" (by leaky this means the inability to prevent the flow of electrons as related to dc voltage). Your last statement is the reason I am replying how I am. Since you don't have equipment your only option is to take this set to a TV repair shop and have it repaired. I have given you a possible cause a component in the HV section that may have gone bad, but without substantial data as to the voltage levels and signal appearances, one can only guess. I hope this helps and you find what you are looking for. Thank you, Shuttle83
