Risk of losing data by re-booting CD-ROM recovery disk

Copy off your data to another computer before recovering. A recovery usually restores to factory settings and loses all data.
You could boot to Ubuntu or Linux and copy your stuff that way, then when restored, copy it back.

I am having problem with this device -Cd Room no Work

Hello,

Is this the first time that you are having this kind of issue?

If the CD rom tray still opens up then you can do a system restore to restore your computer's settings to a known good date.

Click Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

Select a date when the CD rom was still working . Launch the restoration. Let it restart by itself. Check if it works after the restoration.

If no go, then you might want to install RadarSync to automatically install the updated drivers for your CD ROM.

I hope this helps!

Not the exact Toshiba Satelite #, but it is delaying everything I do. I have deleted photoshop, and photoshop elements. Deleted photos, and not much else I could delete. Defragged and Disk Cleaned.

Try this.
Go to START, RUN, type msconfig into the RUN box.
When this window opens click on LAUNCH SYSTEM RESTORE and restore your machine back to a time that it worked ok.

Cd rom

go back to device manager. right click the cd rom name in device manager and click uninstall. right click on an empty area in device manager and click on scan for hardware changes. if this doesnt fix the issue try booting from a windows disk. if you are unable to do this than it may be a physical problem with the device. you may also want to try doing a system restore (if it is win me or higher) by going to start - accessories - system tools - and then system restore. follow the prompts from there.

Windows could start because the following file is missing or corrupt: system 32/drivers/pci.sys

Hello:

You can try repairing the installation of windows.

You need a windows installation disk or system recovery disk.
insert the disk in the CD/DVD RoM
boot your pc from the cd rom.
the system will prompted you repair , press r and then select the 1 or 2(most probably 1)
supply password of the administrator. if no password strike enter
Type: chkdsk /r then strike enter
the system will check and restore.
wait until completed.

If incase its a recovery disk:

boot your pc in the cd rom
the recovery disk you got to option;

either ; you partition and format the entire disk
or leave the current file only the system will be deleted and restore the new system( Something like that)

you have to decide either of the two option. you can try each option:

all of that will be corrected by installation of new windows: windows installation method is here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316941

Bad News, serious problem!

Either Operating System is corrupt or Hard Drive defective. First Try REinstalling the Factory Recovery Disk Bios. Open CD rom Trey Place Factory System REstore disk. Turn on Computer and you should see "bood from CD, press any key" . Do so and follow instructions. Remeber to DELETE SECTORS when asked and when prompted select NSFS format. Follow instructions , use common sense and it should work.

If the HD is Defective, it will stop loading and indicate it cannot find HD in an error message.

One other thing. IF when you insert the disk and it boots up and does not go into the restore mode look on bottom of screen for BOOT ORDER and select CD ROM as the first boot. If you dont see that then you have to go into the BIOS and reset BOOT ORDER TO CD ROM FIRST. To get into Bias try tapping down f-2 key as its booting. If that dont work repeat with f-10, f 12 and then Delete button if all else fails. Find BOOT ORDER in BIAs and follow instructions on making CD ROM the first boot device. Then Save and Exit. Reinsert Restore disk and wait until you get the boot from cd rom prompt (process upove).

Unfortunately all data will be lost but computer will work fine.

If the drive is defective it has to be replaced. Write me again if that is the case if you want to do that yourself.

Good Luck

Cheers !
