Will start and run for 3 seconds and then stalls

My craftsmen 6.0 Hp mulcher pushmower will start nd run for about 3 seconds and then cuts off...Anything come to mind on what it might be?

    I do have a bulb and it looks to be in tip top shape. the fuel line running from the gas tank looks a bit rotted but not leaking.

    I've checked and there doesn't seem to be any other hose exxcept the one coming from the tank to the carburetor. Any other suggestions?

    I agree with everything you're saying. I have taken the carburetor off and cleeaned everything and reinstalled. The primer button is working but iit seems like the gas is'n't flowing into the carburetor after the intial start. I don't have a clue unless the actual carburetor is bad.

Does it have a primer bulb on the side of the engine? If so, it is probably a bad bulb, or the hoses connected to it. You can prime enough gas to start the engine and briefly run it, but the cracks in the bulb or hoses allow air to get sucked into the carburetor not gas. This is what kills the engine. You can pick up a repair kit at just about any hardware store for less than $10.

    It is quite possible that the fuel supply hose that runs into the gas tank is broken. It is a long thin (usually clear) tube that runs from the primer bulb or carburetor, to the tank. Inside the tank it usually has a stone filter attached to it. As the line starts to rot, the heavy stone filter will cause the line to break inside the tank. If you have any way of checking inside the tank, see if the hose reaches the very bottom of the tank. For whatever bright reason, I'm sure its for job security, the manufacturers make the gas lines out of tubing that doesn't hold up well when exposed to gasoline or other petroleum products. That is why they recommend in very fine print that you drain your mower completely of all gas before storing it for extended periods.

    Sorry, I misspoke. I meant the fuel line that runs from the lowest point in the gas tank, out to the carburetor. You are seeing the correct line. Were you able to verify that it is running all the way to the lowest point in the tank. Quite often, the fuel line will sheer off, or crack, right inside where it enters the gas tank, allowing it to **** air and gas vapors, but not a steady supply of fuel. The only things that can go wrong on a typical small 4-stroke engine are fuel, air, and spark. You are obviously getting all three upon initial start up, so we have to figure out which one is going away. Its obviously not air, and the spark is controlled by a magneto which is either all good or all bad. They don't really go in and out of service. The only other deduction is fuel, so somewhere in the line there is a leak that is allowing the fuel supply to fail.

    The only thing that can really go bad on that type of carburetor in this situation, is it would be clogged. If you are able to get the gas into the motor via the primer bulb, the intake stroke provides far more vacuum than the bulb, so it wouldn't be anything in the carb, or the primer bulb wouldn't be able to prime it.

    While the carb is dismantled you can either soak it in Carburetor Cleaner, or use a pipe cleaner to clean out the jets. I really don't think that is the issue, or you would have a constantly weak supply of fuel, and it would be difficult to even get the engine started, let alone running. Or it would at least spit and sputter, but stay running.

check all fuses.
cuts out hot or cold engine.????????

Yardman wood chipper stalls every 10 minutes


What brand engine do you have? B&S? I would start with the fuel system first. Make sure fuel filter is not clogging, check and make sure that the vent cap on the gas tank is not clogged. If the cap is clogged, it creates vacuum in the gas tank which will eventually prevent proper fuel flow going to the carburetor. If your engine has a fuel cut off solenoid (Located Under Carburetor) check the wire connection going to it and make sure that all connections are good in that circuit. You should see battery voltage going to the solenoid when the ignition is turned into the run position. The electric solenoid that opens and closes the plunger that allows fuel to flow into the carburetor could be failing when it gets hot. These fuel cut off solenoids don't commonly electrically fail but the plunger can start to stick causing lack of fuel flow or no fuel flow. They are normally in the closed position when ignition is turned off. Hopefully this information will help you out given the fact that I'm guesstimating on the engine that you may have. Take Care.

Will not stay running


I cleaned the carburator on mine. That did the trick. Make sure you remove the bowl from underneath and clean the bolt. The bolt has holes in it that may be clogged. Clear it with a small wire. I then sprayed the carburator down with starting fluid. You may use carburator cleaner on the carburator, but I didn't I just used a brush.

Craftsmen LT 3000 will not crank


That Briggs engine is not a good engine it has a weak governor gear that is known to come apart for no reason what so ever it may have done so and some of the parts stopped the cam gear from turning. Good luck!

Idol goes up and down keeps running but not enough to cut grass doesnt stall change plug and sprayed choch carb cleaner no sucess


There should be a spring that acts as a governor,kinda stabilizes the idle,mabey stretched or in wrong hole,but shouldnt be if it hasnt been touched. Usually when the pushmowers start acting like that there is crud somewhere in the carb. Take the carb completely apart,hell order a rebuild kit,theyre not that much,but take it completely apart. spray it down real good,take a piece of welding wire and poke through those small holes. Make sure you take an air gun afterwards and give it the once over before installing.

your carburetor needs rebuilt is the most likely culprit. You could have a clogged fuel line. My Toro did that and I had the carb rebuilt and it fixed it.

Cannot find Murry 776014ma battery for electric start pushmower


is this a 12 volt system if so any 12 volt battery should do you if it fits u can use it if the cranking amps are high enough (tip) you can even put
jumper cables on it or a automotive charger and some times get it going. by jumping it from your car as long as it is a 12 volt system .
