Go into the bios ( F2 or Delete or which ever key it states when the computer starts up to get into the bios )

Ensure that the FN key is not disabled in the bios, if it is re enable it and try it again.

Otherwise I would call toshiba and see if the warranty covers it still if not you may have to get them to repair it or call around laptop shops to get them to look at it - may require to replace the keyboard .

I would like to boot a toshiba satellite m105-s30401 with an external monitor as the laptop screen is busted and i would like to use an external monitor until i get a replacement screen, how do i get

Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector
You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key a few times. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8

My function keys doesn't work in my laptop toshiba satellite c660-a047

The function key, labeled "Fn" and located in the lower-left corner of your keyboard, is a useful feature. By pressing "Fn" along with one of the numbered function keys at the top of the keyboard (F1 through F12), you can adjust your screen brightness, enable and disable your touchpad or wireless modem, lock your computer and complete a variety of other tasks. These keys will not work if the "Fn" key is not pressed along with them. While the "Fn" key itself does not turn on and off, there are settings that can make it behave differently, or seem to be disabled.

Click "Start," then "All programs" or "Programs," then "Toshiba." Select "Utilities," then "Accessibility." Place a checkmark in the box to make sure the "Fn" key will work whether you press it simultaneously with the F1 through F12 keys or immediately before pressing those keys. Customize the other options on the screen, then click "OK." Test your "Fn" key. One of the easiest ways to do this is by pressing "Fn" and "Esc" at the same time. This toggles the sound on your computer on and off, and will show a speaker icon on your screen if it works. Press "Fn" and "Num lock" at the same time if the "Fn" key still does not work. Use the "F11" key if your laptop has no "Num Lock" key. Test the "Fn" key again, using the same method as in Step 4. Locate a licensed repair technician if the key still is not working. A hardware issue may be at fault. Hope this helps.

My computer laptop model is Toshiba satellite P750. The FN key doesn't work. Nothing happen when i touch it.

The "Fn" key is a function key, it works with the top row of F1 to F12 keys.
By pressing and holding down the "Fn" key, then pressing one of the top
row "F" keys,

I'v provided a link for you to go to for the full list of "F" functions and what they
do for you as well as how to operate them on your Toshiba Laptop.

I have a Satellite L505LS5014 and my fn key is not working. Please help.

If the Fn key is not working you can try to clean out under the key with a compressed air can. If that doesn't help the only way to clean the key and get it working again is to take off the keyboard and clean the mechanism directly.

Toshiba satellite fn key display problem

Just download this :) It will fix your problem. If it doesn't work, just search for Toshiba Value Added Package Vista/XP (that depends on what Operative System you've got) and download for your Operative System.

Function Buttons are not working in conjunction with (FN) Key for Screen light adjustment and other features.

As far I know FN keys are related with specific motherboard drivers.
Thoshiba recovery cd/dvd during restore/re-install, loads all toshiba drivers and utilities for operating fn keys.
If the operative system loaded in the laptop is no OEM then you will have this problem, and in order to fix it you must:
First install the operative system (clean install)
Second install: chipset drivers. This drivers instructs the operative system how to detect specific hardware. Must be installed in first order.
Third: install drivers (ethernet card, audio, video controller, toshiba utilities, etc). At this point verify all FN keys ( check display settings, stand by/ hybernation, etc).
four: Load all software needed (microsoft office, etc).

I hope this help to solve your problem

Press the Esc key. If that doesn't do it, try the Space bar, or Enter key. Last but not least, the Tab key MIGHT do the job.

LCD not displaying screen, correct. If you have a external monitor like from a desktop, then you can attach it to the laptop. Most laptops have a VGA or DVI connector on them. Even HDMI on new laptop. Most laptop have a combo you need to push to have it go the external monitor. It usually has Fn (Function) then above the F1-F10 keys in color, are the Function keys you push to get it.
I've seen it on F3-F4 keys normally. Your might be different. Use them as a reference only.
