If you refilled the cartridge that may not work. You may want to try new Dell branded cartridges.

Are the new cartridges from Dell?


I would try cleaning the contacts on the printer. Use a Q-tip and some isopropyl alchohol and clean the copper contacts where you cartridge plugs in. While your at it you might as well clean the copper contacts on the cartridge also. It is very common that Dell cartridges have this error. If that doesn't work send them back to Dell.

I bought a ink cartridge for my dell 942 printer. The box at staples says its for a 942 (it's the "offical" dell ink) but when I try to install it, it won't "snap" into place.


compare your old 942 cartridge with the one you just bought, if they're the same type then try putting the cartridge again, make sure that you have taken out the sticker on the cartridge copper contacts then put it in the right way. otherwise, have the cartridge replaced by the store you bought it from or contact Dell tech support and have them do the replacement.

I think you purchased a black cartridge with bad electronics. Basically your cartridge can't communicate with your printer and you should exchange it for a new one. There is no way to "fool" your printer into accepting refills with bad electronics. What you can do is when you get the message that you aren't using genuine cartridges and it won't be able to estimate ink levels is to check the box indicating to ignore the ink levels.

I would recommend cleaning off the contacts where the cartridge is loaded as well as the any other spots to see if maybe there is just something on the contacts.

I had my empty color ink cartridge m4646 refilled.when i install it it keeps showing empty.the printeris a dell all in one 922


bought a new cartridge &installed it. its fine now. my ink filler suplier said that they called dell & were told the cartridge was programed noy to be refilled.

None of them ...... Lexmark cartridges cannot be used in non Lexmark printers.

The problem is simple. Try inserting your old in cartridges. If the old ones work, the ink cartridges are defective. Contact Dell and get these replaced.
Otherwise the printer has a problem. try cleaning the metal contacts of the ink cartridge and the ink carrier.

Was your replacement cartridge a new dell product? If it was, the sensor on the prnter should recognize it as new and reset the indicator to full. If, however, the cartridge was refilled, remanufactured, or otherwise an off brand, the ink indicator will show it to be empty. Just ignore and use the printer as normal -- it will print just fine, but you may need to press the select button to get it to start printing the first page.
