Re: When I open the lens... A menu page comes up...

If you're seeing black or distorted images both on the LCD and on the recorded pictures, then this might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:
Applicable cameras include:
A40, A60, A70, A75, A80, A85, A95, A300, A310, S1 IS, S60, S200, S230, S330, S400, S410, S500, SD100, SD110

My aperture or lens isn't opening - can't take a picture. It worked fine a couple of weeks ago and when I tried to use it this week it was a no go.

Aperture and lens are two different things. If you mean the camera is taking black pictures (something common for the S5), then see this link.

But if you mean that the lens isn't extending properly, then see this video:

The screen wont come up so i can see what im taking a picture of how can i fix this?

If you can see the menus and review pictures you've already taken then there's apparently nothing to fix. You have to use the viewfinder to compose your pictures, not the LCD on the back. The live view capability to use the LCD was introduced with later models.

I have a Fuji finepix j38 that is appox. 8 months old. When I turn the camera on, the lens comes out, immediately retracts, and "zoom error" comes up on the LCD. I can view pictures, but can't take any. ...

I thimk your problem is that you have sand betwin the lens mechanism and that cause the immediately can try to apply air pressure near the lens but with care

Kodak M340 lens extends then retracts immediately

I had the same problem after a day at the beach. What I did was get a can of compressed air (from the computer section) and blow air around the lens as I repeatedly turned it on. It took about five cycles, but I eventually cleared whatever was preventing the lens from fully opening.

Good luck.

Apparently, you missed some sand and it just took a while to work its evil way into the works of your camera.

The lens on my Sony W130 goes in and out.

I will forward a link to a page where you can get more information about this issue.

If the issue still persists then service of the Camera is recommended.

Zoom lens won't come out

If the lens will not come out, i need you to try this steps first before sending it in for SVC.

Improper battery connection might be the reason why there is not enough power for the lens to come out and open.

Recommended batteries are just:
- Alkaline (Non-rechargeable)
- Nickel-metal Hydride (Rechargeable)

Just set the proper battery type by:
- Pressing MENU/OK button
- Scroll to the right until you are in SETUP 2
- Keep on scrolling down and look for battery type
- Press the right button to pick up on 2 options
like Alkaline and Ni-MH
- Press MENU/OK for changes to be saved
- Keep pressing MENU/OK to get out of the MENU

Once, it's done, camera needs to be turned off for a few seconds
so that settings made will be refreshed with the camera.

As you turn camera on, you're now ready to take many pictures.

About the warranty, basically you do have a 1-year Limited Manufacturer's warranty and it will start from the date of purchase. And if that expires, there is a usual charge of about $50-60. You'll be seeing the payment upon the creation of the online service request through and just click on Customer Service then Option 2.

Hope this works.

No power and lens will not come out

Your lens mechanism is jammed or off its "track" you need to get it realigned and lubricated w/a safe lube, like a white grease. You can try and gently "help" it out while it is trying to do this mechanically and if you hear a little ckick, then it may have realigned itself. Some have used compressed air to blow out any crud in there. Try these or take it to a camera shop. maybe they can help instead of sending it back for service as there is usually a fixed fee for ANY repair, big or small and usually eclipses the cost of a replacement camera, or very close to it.
