Question about Toshiba Tecra M2-S530 Notebook

Will not boot up

I have a Toshiba Tecra M2 that will not boot up. I could get it to boot a few extra times by removing the main memory chip under the keyboard and reinstalling. This is no longer working. Plug it in-AC power and battery LED light in front. Power light comes on the front when you push the power button.Push and hold the power button again, and power light goes out. This is all it does, no display, no fan, not HD start up. After awhile the AC power LED goes from straight green, to blinking amber. Tried removing the battery and trying to boot-no help. Tried different processor-no help. Tried different RAM chip-no help. Tried external monitor-nothing. Tried different power supply-no help. Leaning toward motherboard, and if so, looking for advice as to where on the motherboard. Thanks

I got it used. I would guess 4-5 years old. The cpu does not spin.

    Thanks

Thanks for the replies. I will check out the connector. The laptop is completely disassembled right now. Had it apart and back together a few times, hoping for a bad connection fix.

Frank, can you tell me more on checking the voltages? Is there a diagrahm available, where to take the measurements?

    Thanks

This is motherboard hardware issue
1) first all you need take out all devices like HDD DVD, wireless card then try turn it on if noting yet
2) change RAM stick that you have done
3) check DC PWM standby status, like 3V/5V/1.8V which should be appear before power on.
if no 3V/5V DC output, check this PWM circuite like MOSFET or PWM chip.
if you find 3V/5V, so need check 1.8V DC output and 1.2V that chip fail also cause nothing turn on.
all steps need diagram check where the chips and componenets on your board.
hope help you something fixed, please take a rating let me know how much helped you thanks! keep in touch your question

    check step by step

    1) check any disconnection:

---DC jack socket pin to motherboard, the pins needs to be resoldered

---check DC insolated circuite (MOSFET) pins or resolder it

    2) check 3V/5V any shortage:

--- check capacitor near the bigger magnet component there are two for 3V and 5V), use meter(set to OHM) to probe the OHM never lower than 500OHM, if lower to two digital number OHM that shortage occured need to take a deeply check

if I find the diagram that similar yous. will show you a part of them:

later. please take a rating thanks!

I have a Toshiba Tecra M2 Laptop. I just installed (2) 1gb ram chips. Bios only shows 1.256 Windows only shows 1.256 Where or how do I access or show 2gb RAM>

This could be bad memory or possibly (but unlikely) a bad memory controller. To test this remove one stick and power it on and look at the size, than switch the pieces of memory and check that one. If they both show 1gb then try each stick in the other slot. If they both do not show 1 gb then there is the problem.

Toshiba Tecra 8100 PIII laptop not booting

It could be a hard ware isuse. Try this.

If you have extra memory or removable Ram ( usually located on the bottom under a panel) Try removing it and starting it, with the ram removed. Then try putting it back in and starting it. If it works, it may be bad memory or it just needed to be reseated. Do this also with the cd drive and wireless card if it is removeable.

also try this with the battery, plug it in and remove the battery and see if it starts.

alot of laptops, like computers will not boot if there is a hardware issue.

The Beeping is a code. The number of beeps and how it beeps usually indicates an issue.

you could look the beep codes up on the toshiba website is the support center.

Good luck.
