Camera powers down when pressing shutter button

When I press the shutter button the camera powers off. Is it possible to send the camera out to have the shutter button fixed or replaces Same thing. Suddenly after more than a year of usage, when I press the shutter button to take a photo, the camera powers down. Pressing the power button adjusts the lense but I still cannot take a photo.

I see this frequently on the E900. Every time it has been a battery issue. If you're using rechargables (the E900 came with batteries and charger in the Canadian market......not sure about the rest of the planet), they may have just worn out over time. Replace with new NI-MH (nickel metal hydride) rechargeables. If you're using throw-away AA's, try Energizer Ultimate Lithiums. I've solved many, many E900 shutting off problems simply by changing the batteries to Energizer Lithiums.

I confirm Steve5's solution to this problem. E900 comes also in Italy with a small recharger (5 hours timer) and two rechargables AA 2300mAh 1.2v. I experienced the problem after using some old - and probably exhausted - rechargable batteries (1300mAh). After replacing them with the original ones, all works fine. I only hope that such behaviour can not cause some problem to the camera.

Thanks for the solution!

When i press the shutter button to take a photo the shutter goes up and the power goes down. i have to remove the battery (sometimes wait a few seconds) reinsert it and then the shutter closes. It does not...

If your camera battery is having limited current factor, there is a possibility that the entire action is not happening with the available voltage/current. as multimeter test of voltage might indicate the voltage but the current factor will need a series test. hence I advice you replace the batery and test again. If the fault recurrs then the camera electronics is at fault, possible that the shutter mechansim is taking up power and stenching the cirrcuits to hang up. I feel the camera has to be open out to confirm the power hang.hope I could help.? Good day

Shutter speed very slow and has trouble focusing. When I press the the shutter button it takes several seconds before it takes a picture if at all. It seems as though it is having trouble focusing and when...

There is a diaphragm between the shutter button and the shutter switch that causes the camera to focus before the shutter is pressed all the way down. It is likely that the diaphragm is punctured and needs to be replaced. There is also a small possibility that the hidden secondary battery inside the camera is going bad.

If you find an online user manual for the Olympus C-860L camera, please tell me (send an email to "dave at burtonsys dot com").  Thanks!

In the meantime, try this...

With the data cable unplugged,

Open the sliding front to turn the camera on.

Press and hold the green button on the back, light up the LCD display,

Press the menu button on the top edge of the camera (the button farthest from the shutter button).  That should bring a menu up on the screen.

Press the menu button repeatedly to switch between menu screens.  E.g., press it twice to get to the resolution screen (SHQ / HQ / SQ).

Press the "+" and "-" buttons to move between menu items.

Press the shutter button to select/OK the menu item you have selected.

I hope this helps!

Shutter delay

If you have installed optional expanded memory, you may notice a delay between the time you press the shutter button and when the camera beeps. You can reduce this delay by pressing the button down halfway, holding it as long as necessary, and then pressing it down the rest of the way when you are ready to take the picture. The reason for this two-step shutter is to save battery power. After a picture is taken, compressed, and written to memory, the Sparc CPU shuts down to save the battery's power. When the shutter button is pressed halfway, the Sparc wakes up and stays in the ready state until the user presses the shutter button the rest of the way. Besides the delay in waking the Sparc, there is a variable delay which occurs prior to the Sparc being in the ready state. This delay is dependent on the amount of free flash memory.

The camera takes too long to take a photo. What should I do?

Press the shutter button halfway and hold it to set the focus, then press it the rest of the way down to take a photo. If you press the shutter button down all the way at once, it takes time to focus and set the exposure before the shutter releases. It may take longer than when pressing the shutter button in two steps.

Why doesn't the shutter button on my EasyShare digital camera work?

The cause and solution may include one of the following: The camera is not turned on. Turn on the camera. The camera is processing a picture; the camera Power ring light (on the Mode dial) blinks green. Wait until the light stops blinking before taking another picture. The card or internal memory is full. Transfer pictures to the computer, delete pictures from the camera, switch storage locations, or insert a memory card with available memory. The shutter button was not pressed. Depress the shutter button completely down. There was a failure in the focus and/or exposure. Press the shutter button halfway to set the Auto Focus (AF) and Auto Exposure (AE). When the AF/AE indicator turns green, press the shutter button completely down. The battery is exhausted. Replace or recharge the battery
