The Aspire One is a netbook produced by
Acer; it does not come equipped with a CD ROM drive, so a traditional
hard drive reformat and Windows reinstallation is not possible without a
peripheral storagedevice. An external USB CD or flash drive will suffice, however.Difficulty:Moderate
Plug in the external CD drive, then turn on your netbook and let it boot to your operatingsystem.
Open your web browser and go to
the BootDisk website (see link in Resources). Download the Windows XP
Fresh Install Bootable CD, then burn these files to a blank CD via your
external CD drive.
Ensure the files have burned to your bootable CD, then restart the netbook with the CD still in the drive.
The netbook should boot to the
CD upon the restart. Follow the instructions prompted for installation.
Upon completion you will have a clean installation of Windows XP on
your Acer Aspire One.
RESTORING A DELL COMPUTER OR LAPTOP BACK TO AS NEW CONDITION.
If you do not have a RECOVERY CD then contact Dell to purchase this Recovery CD for your model Dell computer or laptop. Boot up using the Recovery CD and follow the instructions. The other way is to re-install Windows using a Windows installation CD; it must match the Windows version on the Windows Product Code label on the bottom of your laptop or on the side or back of the desktop computer. Boot up using the Windows installation CD and follow the instructions. Next install all of the Dell's computer/laptop device drives. Next install the Windows service packs (SP2 & SP3 for XP, SP1 & SP2 for Vista) Next Activate Windows via the Internet or by phone. Next install all your programs - Microsoft Office, anti-virus etc. Next click on Start - Programs - Windows Update (for the latest updates). Next copy your data back to the computer/laptop. The device drivers for your model computer/laptop can be downloaded from the Dell WEB support site. To download the drivers from Dell WEB site, select your model desktop or laptop, or a better option, type in the Service Tag number, this is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Tag label is missing then go the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). The Service Tag will open the page where the drivers specific for your model computer/laptop are located. Also make sure you select the Windows XP or Vista version of the drivers for your Windows operating system. Click on this link to download the drivers: - http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen
sounds like a pirated copy of windows was installed on your computer but not necessarily. the only restore option that will work, if this is the case, is the factory restore option that came w/the computer...assuming it's still there...but this will erase all your data. if this is ok w/you then just text me back an i will look up the procedure in a moment but if the back up sector was erased it wont work either and you will be forced to install the operating system again. hope this helps and sorry for your trouble
Firstly, you should be aware that XP may not support all the drivers for your laptop. You may have to download the drivers fomr the Acer website after you change to Windows XP.
Firstly, make sure that you back up all your documents.
You will then have to rebooot the PC with the XP cd, and tell it to boot from CD. The boot menu can be accessed by pressing F2 or F12 as your PC boots up, it will show as you start.
Method 1: Perform a clean install of Windows XPA clean installation consists of removing all data from your hard disk by repartitioning and reformatting your hard disk and reinstalling the operating system and programs to an empty (clean) hard disk. To perform a clean installation of Windows XP, follow these steps:
Back up all important information before you perform a clean installation of Windows XP. Save the backup to an external location, such as a CD or external hard disk.
Start your computer from the Windows XP CD. To do this, insert the Windows XP CD into your CD drive or DVD drive, and then restart your computer.
Note To boot from your Windows XP CD, the BIOS settings on your computer must be configured to do this.
When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD" message, press any key to start the computer from the Windows XP CD.
At the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to start Windows XP Setup.
Read the Microsoft Software License Terms, and then press F8.
Follow the instructions on the screen to select and format a partition where you want to install Windows XP.
Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the Windows XP Setup.
You'll have to purchase the XP software, set your computer to boot from cd (in the cmos settings), put the disk in the cd and restart you computer. When the screen comes up to "...hit any key to boot from cd" hit any key. The system will boot to the XP cd and will allow you to delete the old partition, reformat your drive, and install XP. Next go to www.acer.com and download your drivers. Finally install your programs and data on to your hard drive. Have fun!
NOTE: Make absolutely sure that you backup the programs and data that you want to keep before starting the XP install!
Make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements. These are on the cover of the Windows 7 box. If your computer meets the requirements, then back up all of your data. Make sure you have the original disks for any programs you may want to re-install. Make sure you are connected to the internet. (You can still install without being conected to the internet, you just won't be able to get the updates while installing.) Now, go ahead and put the cd in the cd rom drive and the installation should start on its own. If it does not, then click on your start button, click on my computer, open the installation disc on your drive and double-click on the setup.exe program. On the Install Windows screen click on install now. If you are running XP select Custom and if you are running Vista select upgrade so that you won't have to restore your data or re-install your programs. It's a pretty straight forward process. The main problems arise from the meeting the minimul system requirements. good luck!
To restore to a different computer a lot of times you have to use the same software or program you used to back up with. Also note that you can not transfer programs from one computer to another, just data i.e. photos, music, documents.
hi there there are couple of steps involved in formating the laptop. i will try to give simple and easy solution --> save/backup all your important data into external hard drive or DVD/CD so you will not loose the data --> i hope you have the xp cd with you --> put the xp cd in the drive --> restart the computer --> press del/f2 to go to BIOS (setup) --> in boot configure first drive should be your dvd drive --> press F10/ save changes and exit --> it will ask press any key to load from cd --> after that the xp setup will start --> follow the instructions --> you can delete and create partitions here too or simply format the drive --> install the xp --> install the drivers --> your laptop is ready to go but dont forget to change the BIOS setting to normal again.
try clean install but you will need the xp cd- when entering cd choose destructive recovery.............you will need the cd for this however you can also try turn nb off/restart and when booting up hold f11-start recovery from here.......when you do any of this you will lose any data you have previously installed yourself-this system will reinstall factory settings....if you have important data on your system back this up first!!!!! good luck
