Main seal has gone bad and needs to be replaced. It might be worth it to you unless you are a mechanical person that you either have a company repair this part or replace the washing machine. The part is fairly cheap but the job is somewhat difficult. You can order the part at repairclinic.com

The drum water seal has cracked or split and has allowed soapy water to get into the support shaft bearings.

The soap has killed the lube and now the bearings are running in rust.

No easy fix , exchange unit will be available from the maker but you need to look at the rest of the machine before you commit to a repair.

Afte 10 years the other compoents will be just as worn as the drive train

Need APPROXIMATE water consumption on 10 yr old Whirlpool washer

Hello. The older top load washers use up to 60 gallons of water per load. That said, also check your toilets as a leaking toilet can use tens of thousands of gallons per year. Here is a link that explains how to check your toilets and other items for leaks. Regards, Joe

Intermittent water observed under machine

Difficult if not seen. Most common water on the floor senario is a drain pump leaking:or a perrished pipe from friction.or sometimes, water backs up from the house drainage system due to a restriction.

Leak. My wife noticed water leaking out bottom of washer

Try cleaning the drain plug. I did this in about 5 minutes and was amazed at how much debris was clogging up the drain. Mine was accessible by removing two screws at the bottom of washer and removing panel. Drain plug was right there and easy to unscrew. Be sure to have a cookie sheet or other pan to catch the water that will flow out. Once that drain is clear, thumping should stop because water can flow down the drain easily.

10 yr old GE side by side: freezer is leaking

Your drain is frozen up and so every time unit goes into defrost the water refreezes in the freezer's bottom. You either have to shut fridge off completely and let it dethaw or use hot water and an ice pick to hurry up the process. The drain is located in the very back of freezer. You will have to pull out the bottom drawer to see it. Good luck

GE Top load washer.

Hello rschneeweis
Welcome,

Sounds like a seal or drain hose is leaking or the clamp on a hose has vibrated loose.

Water leaking out the bottom of the machine when washing machine begins agitation cycle. If the machine is turned off the water stops leaking even with the tub full of water.

Let me know if you found it and how you do.

Spin cycle

Did it make this noise just when it stopped spinning.  Just for a couple seconds?  If so,  it's only brake noise and not a concern.  If it does this all during spin you probably have a bad tub bearing.  Is it a roaring noise?  This is what the bearing will sound like.

5 yr old washer is leaking

Ellbee, remove the two screws at the bottom of the front panel and lift it towards you. Two clips on the top that hold it will release. You can now get a good look at the pump. Catriver..post back.
