I have had no problems with my ps3, until i hired a blu ray movie from blockbuster. The movie started to play but about 2 mins into the movie it froze for about 10 seconds, when it resumed i rewound the film back to where it skipped from (it skipped about 10 mins). I then resumed playing and after about 30 seconds it happened again. I turned it off and left it. The next evening i came to watch a different movie and it wouldn't work. The ps3 turns on and the menu screen appears but wont read discs. I have tried numerus games, blu rays and ordinary dvd's but none of the seem to read. I have Formatted the hard drive and reset the com back to default factory settings but still no joy. Please help!!!! test test test 5.33

f the Blu-ray Disc does not support 1080p 24Hz video mode, the video output may not display properly.
If a Blu-ray Disc movie is not loading properly or is freezing on a title screen, this may be caused by the PLAYSTATION 3 attempting to download BD-Live content from congested movie studio servers. If you experience this issue, you may choose to temporarily bypass the BD-Live content until the congestion at the movie studio servers has cleared.
Go to Settings icon (Settings) > Video Settings icon (Video Settings) > [BD Internet Connection], select "Confirm". Then reload the Blu-ray movie and the PLAYSTATION 3 will prompt you if you wish to allow the disc to access BD-Live content. Choose to not access BD-Live content to see if the movie will now load.For some reason you seem to think this is a PS3 problem. Why do you think this is a PS3 problem? If you can play PS3 games, then I will say it is not a PS3 problem, as all PS3 games are on Blu-ray, and if you were having problems playing PS3 games, then that could account for the movie not working.
Since only the movie isn't working, I am going to say you have a defective Blu-ray disc. Did you just buy this movie, or have you viewed it before using the PS3? If you have never viewed it on the PS3, then the problem lies in the disc, and you need to take it back and have it exchanged.
If you have played the disc in the PS3 before (the PS3 you are having a problem with, not a different PS3 or Blu-ray player), or you still think it is a PS3 problem, then use the "Disc Troubleshooting" support page. Normally, if a Blu-ray movie will not play, it won't play at all, and it is because the Blu-ray laser has gone out. It sounds to me that the disc is bad, but this is only going on the information you have supplied.
**EDIT** Sorry, I just noticed you gave a UK link. Here is the support page for the UK. You will have to do a search on the site to find the Disc Troubleshooting page for your region.http://uk.playstation.com/support/
the faint lines are nothing. its just smudging or something. the main reason why a ps3 wont play a clean bluray movie is if your system is in need of an update if you have already done that then it may be an issue to call sony with...
1st DO NOT EXPOSE THE BLU-RAY FOR ANY REASON - You run the risk of blindness and radiation exposure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please advise what FirmWare Version you are currently running on. You can find this under;
Settings>System Settings>System Information.
Once I have this info I will provide you with the best fix if needed but It is probably down to out of date drivers. There have been a number of changes to the blurays drivers recently and if these havent been updated then this will most likely be your problem. To solve this all you need to do is take your system online and download the newest FirmWare update. - There are people who NEVER use the system online for different reasons. Since you brought the system BluRay has gone through 4 upgrades. Any BluRays you buy now wll likely be incompatible for playback with the drivers you have on your system.
If you need any further advice on getting online with thew PS3 please post it as a new issue and I will help you - but the PS3 talks you through it to be honest
Occasionally the software on most blu-ray players needs to be updated to the newest technology. The reason some discs play and some don't is because the discs that play are most-likely older movies or from a company that still used the "outdated" software. So the discs that don't play (most likely discs made with the updated software) won't play on your player until you've update the player's software. To do this visit, in your case, Sony's website for update info. There are a few ways you can get the info. You can download it directly to your player (if it has online accessibility) or you can request that they send you an update disc. Either way, most companies provide the update for free. Hope this helps, good luck!
