Question about HP Officejet Pro L7680 All-In-One Printer

HP L7680 Scanner & Software function - cD does not load fully

I purchased an HP OfficeJet Pro L7680 (Alli n One) about two weeks ago. I have managed (first time) to load the Software (SW) package to my Works Laptop (a Toshiba M3) this all seems to be OK, suggesting that there is nothing wrong with the Printer or CD provided. My issue is that when I tried to load to my Decktop PC (a Dell Pentium 4) at the first attempt, I managed to connect to a 'Dead' USB port (my error). My PC didn't configure with the new devise. Having switched USB ports, I managed to finish the SW upload BUT the printer was not configured correctly. Plug & Play did seem to recognise the device i.e. I got the usual comment bubbles by the clock. I therefore, unistalled the SW, and tried again. Since this point, the CD usually does not load beyond 96% (it will go to 100% in the end but this seems to be a timeout) as a result, my Printer now works BUT the icon 'HP Digital Imaging Monitor' will not load stating that 'No HP device is found'. I can load an image via the Windows 'Scanner & Camera wizard' BUT not via the HP SW. I have upgraded my USB cable $50 worth, unistalled and reinstalled my USB drivers, all ports are working fine. Heaven only knows how many times I have unistalled & reinstalled via HP Support instructions but still no joy. I suspect that the Registry is the problem BUT not too sure. I must be full of duplicated entries although I do run a Reg Cleaner to clear some of the rubbish. In the end, I'm not too sure what to remove in the registry (and I do copy to my Desktop before removing anything) can you advise. The problem seems to relate to the Scanner but it does work Any ideas ? I have done everything everyone has mentioned. Returning the printer may be my only option from the sound of the lack of successes. HP needs a scanner firmware fix.

This is an educated guess but your problem is most likely a driver/software file conflict which is causing the software to bork before it completes the installation.

In all honesty the HP software is bloatware that is frequently identified as more trouble than it's worth. So, my recommendation would be to try and locate a more suitable software package that will work with the scanner to do what you want instead.

You are probably best to download the basic driver only package for your unit and then completely remove the old software before installing fresh (remember to unplug the printer before you install the new drivers).

I appreciate that this is not the most elegant solution but as I noted the HP software is not overly user friendly and in the interests of retaining your hair, sanity and keeping therapy bills to a minimum I'd invest your time in finding a more suitable application that will work with a TWAIN scanner (which the HP L7680 should be).

Hope that helps and good luck...

Software Loading / Scanner Recogniton

Several times, I've had issues installing USB devices on Dells.  The problem seems to involve the fact that Dell has trouble recognizing the ports as USB2.  It'll recognize devices, but not all devices, and not all devices will work properly.

I know this doesn't exactly solve your problem, but I thought this tid-bit might bring you a little closer to a solution.

I am getting white streaks in my printouts

It's probably like my Epson...the heads are eithr dirty or should have a computer diagnostic program on CD for your printer if you bought it new...if not, then you can get it from HP or possibly their webpage. The program should include an easy-to-follow alignment procedure done by a USB connection from your comp to your printer, or do the normal head cleading procedure at a service center.

Scanner & Software function - cD does not load fully

When trying to reconnect the device, don't expect Windows' plug and play to help you.

To uninstall the hardware itself, locate on your CD "x:\util\ccc\uninstall_l1.bat". Disconnect USB cable as it says before continuing. When finished, restart your computer.

REinsert the CD, and choose "Add a device"... that'll ask you to connect the USB cable so it can configure the scanner portion and not only the printer portion.
