Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Not heating up

We have a Kenmore 80 series gas dryer. Just the last 2 times I have used it, it turns on , but is not heating up. Is this possibly something that we can fix ourselves. If so, How?

Hi, check the fuse first. This is the most common model. If this is not your model, please get me the model #. Normal 0 UNPLUG the dryer! Remove the rear panel of the dryer and locate the fuse. It is white and ¼” wide and 3” long. It is located on the blower housing. Remove the wires and check to see if it has continuity. If it does not, you need to replace it. If the fuse is ok, let me know so I can tell you how to test the ignitor.
Normal 0
Please let me know if this help or if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

Kenmore 70 Series Dryer not heating and not cutting off

I had an identical problem to yours this weekend with my Kenmore dryer. There were 2 problems.

1. Timer was broken. Does not advance to "OFF" position on timed dry, however it still works for auto-dry.

2. Thermal fuse was blown. Upon replacing, dryer heated up normally.

I believe when the timer broke, the dryer had kept running and blew the thermal fuse. On Sears' website, thermal fuse is $5.30, timer is roughly $80.

Kenmore 80 series gas dryer has not heat

most of these dryers have a little plastic plug on the front, left side. pop that plug out and look inside after turning it on. you should see a red glow. if not, then your ignitor has broken. if you see a glow, then the problem is probably one of the two little coils on the gas valve. these coils will sense if there is something to light the gas [the red glow] and open the valve - if the coils are bad, they won't open the valve

Heat does not stay on

Check the high limit thermostat. You can check it using a multimeter or ohmmeter. If bad, replace it. Hope this helped.
