Question about Dell Spacesaver USB Keyboard J4624 SK-8115 RT7D50

1 Answer

Keyboard problems Keyboard on the new Dell Laptop Inspiron 1545 has gone haywire. While typing it throws me into numerous other programs or sites. The keys are not worn or dirty as it is brand new. I cannot find anything wrong in the control panel for the keyboard so how can I fix this? The only solution I have found is to type in an unnatural position with hands held high over the keys to hit them dead on center! This is not a good way to type and will cause damage to my wrists soon!

Go to Control Panel --- then System -- then device manager -- under keyboard right click and go to update driver.

If that doesn't work, go into control panel and there should be an Icon for KEYBOARD. Check the "Key settings" and make sure it set to "Standard" and not custom or gaming.

Hope this helps!

No number lock or schroll lock Keys

Your laptop computer may have a numeric keypad integrated into the
keyboard. The keypad corresponds to the keypad of an extended keyboard.
• To type a number or symbol, press and hold <Fn> and press the desired
key.
• To enable the numeric keypad, press <Num Lk>. The 9 light indicates
that the keypad is active.
• To disable the numeric keypad, press <Num Lk> again.

If you purchased it new, you should be able to get the keyboard replaced under warranty. Dell's come with a minimum 1-year warranty. Give them a call and tell them the issue with the spacebar.

Unresponsive keyboard

Replace the keyboard. They're readily available on ebay. Also, try plugging a usb keyboard in & see if it still happens. If it does then forget replacing the keyboard. Instead you'll be needing a motherboard.

Keyboard also going haywire - suggestions not working

Keyboard is defective for sure, almost like certain keys are shorted out or on some of the keys the tactiles are depressed and might be stuck. With your laptop turned off. Run your fingers thru all of the keys on the keyboard from left to right from top to bottom and then repeat the same motin from bottom to top. Then go ahead and turn on the laptop and see if it still does it. If it does then go ahead with the laptop off, take out the keybard physically, then reseat it back into its slot and boot up the laptop again, if it does the same thing, then the keyboard is bad and since the laptop is new and should be under warranty (1 year warranty on Dell) then they should be able to replace it under warranty.

How do i activate and lock my Fn keys

Unlike previous models, The 1545 has no imbedded Numeric Keypad, so there is no NUMLOCK option.
For numerics, you will have to use the numbers above the QWERTY row.
SCROLL LOCK was also eliminated from the 1545 keyboard (Legacy item, seldom used)
If you need a numeric keypad and/or Scroll Lock, then an external keyboard may be an option.
