Question about Pentair Minimax NT Heater

1 Answer

Minimax NT cycles on, Flame stays on about one second then shuts off. It resets itself then cycles on again. About one second later flame goes out again. It keeps going thru this cycle. There are no error codes and the LED stays off. What is the cause of this problem? Please help Bill I had the exact same problem last year. The technician simply removed the and cleaned the gas nozzles. Even tough I have not been heating the pool I fire the heater every month for about ten minutes. Last week when I tried to fire the heater once more, the same problem happened again. The unit ignites for about 2 or 3 seconds and shuts off. The cycle repeat without stopping and with no error code. I tried to clean the nozzles but it did not work this time. Is this something simple I can fix myself or should I call a technician again?

It sounds like the flame sensor is bad. If thats not the case you may need to replace the control board. You should make sure the flame sensor is directly into the flame.

its not sensing flame you have to look at the burners make sure all of them light. Many times spiders wil get into the gas jets, you can use a number 12 solid copper wire to insert it into the gas jet you will see it ,the flame sensor burner is not having a good flame

The igniter comes on, lights the flame but the flame only stays on for about 5 seconds and then the flame shuts off. About 1 minute or two later this cycle repeats itself.

There's a heat sensor that's in the path of the flame. It's supposed to detect when the flame is lit properly so you don't fill your house with unburned gas.

I'd bet that sensor has gone south, or maybe the wire going to it.

What brand/model is it? A diagram and parts listing might come in handy.

If you are getting fire and have an eo5 this is a reading for no flame so it is not reading the flame. What you probally have is small spider webs in your burner orfaces. You will need to pull the burners out and with a small wire or the like clear the gas orfaces going to the burners. These little webs can divert the gas to the main burners and keep it from the burner that reads the flame. Your heater will come on with a big woosh as the gas needs to come from other burners to fire. I hope this helps. Good luck

Minimax NT 400 TSI Heater problem

I bet that your 15 seconds of flame are more like 7 seconds. The time is very important. If the flame is not recognized after a specific time the valve is shut off. If the flame sensor is GOING bad but still make some rectification then you may get the issue you are having. I would start with the flame sensor and work from there.

Flame wont stay lit

Sounds like a flame sensor problem. The board is not getting the proper signal from the flame sensor so it thinks the burner did not light and shuts the gas supply off. It keeps the blower operating to ensure that no gas is accumulated in the burner area. I suggest you contact a local mechanical contractor to service your heater.
