Hp dv7 keyboard issue

HP DV7..some keys don't register [g, h, ', backspace]. i'm using onscreen keyboard to type. brand new computer. this problem occurred several months ago, but it seemed to resolve itself after waiting and rebooting. there's no dust underneath. what's wrong? is there a reset function. the laptop keyboard setting is the same as when i bought it.

Hey guys, I just had this problem, I have alot of problems with my DV7 laptop, top panel started malfunctioning, then it thought i was turning the volume up and down by myself, also my g h ' and backspace stopped working along with other problems that I don't want to bore you guys with, whats the answer? Remove the battery for 10-15 seconds and clean the connectors and this has ALWAYS fixed all my problems. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem and looked everywhere for a solution. Eventually I did was was suggested above, took off my keyboard and re-affixed the connector cable ribbon to its connector. It solved my problem perfectly and it wasn't hard at all.

This link does a good job of showing you which screws you need to remove to access your keyboard:

but I found the following walk-through much more helpful - start with step 5

good luck

Hello,

It sounds like the keyboad is faulty or not plugged into the system board correctly. If you know how to remove the key board, try to re-seat the laptop. If not your laptop will be under warranty and I suggest that you take it to a repair shop for repair.

Where do you live, if in Canada I can direct you to an HP repair shop in your area.

How do i re-attach the up arrow key on my hp pavilion dv7-6143cl? It has come loose but all of the parts are still intact.

Hello thf you look closely at the place where the key fits examine it and look to see if there are any broken tabs if not the key should simply press back in it does take some pressure and you should feel a snap when it is locked in place
Now if it does not then the key itself may be faulty which means you can get a another key from a old key board or just replace the keyboard itself they really are not too expensive ok
Hop this helps
Best regards Michael

The g and h keys don't function

Hello

Still? Was this the problem before? I have seen viruses that effect the keys. Download and run AVGFREE, MALWARE BYTES, and SUPERANTISPYWARE. Once these ae run, now how is the keyboard? If still a problem goto START, Run and type MSCONFIG. Once this is on the screen then select Disgnostic Startup. Save and Reboot. Only the basic OS will load. If the keys still don't work then it can only be the KB, KB connector, or mother board.

This sounds alot like a virus i once had!
try a system restore to the point before these problems occured. if that doesnt work run a full virus scan. If that doesnt fix the problem you may have to wipe the hard drive completly.
