No. Please charge only when the battery is dying. This would help improve the battery life as well.

It depends on the type of battery. NiMH and NiCAD batteries are much more susceptible to "memory" in which case a film builds up on the boundary of normal use making it so that the battery will only function in the range that it is usually asked to. In other words, if you only ever use it for short periods of time, eventually it will appear to only hold a charge for a very short period of time, this would include if you always operated the laptop plugged in. You can fix this somewhat by trying to take it through full charge and discharge cycles to try to reclaim some of the lost space. NiCad and NiMH batteries are not used in many laptops these days but are still used in many other consumer devices such as cordless phones and cordless power tools.

Lithium Ion batteries used in most laptops these days. They tend to be lighter weight and less prone to "memory" issues. It is still not a bad idea to, from time to time, completely discharge the battery and charge it, but it is not as critical as with the other types of rechargeable batteries.

Finally, be very careful of temperature extremes with a Lithium Ion battery. Heat and cold can kill "cells" within the battery greately affecting their capacity. Try not to leave your laptop in the car on a hot day or overnight when temperatures get very cold or else you may find that your battery capacity is greatly reduced.

LAPTOP NOT CHARGING

With Dell you have to use Dell OEM chargers to keep all the functions. Like charging and use at the same time. Otherwise it wont do both. Look on Ebay for a genuine Dell charger or go to Dells website. Be advised that it might be the jack on the computer though.

IS IT SAFE TO KEEP THE LAPTOP BATTERY OUT FOR LONG PERIODS

Yes, it should be fine to remove the battery from the laptop if it is not being used, as there would be a minimal drain on the battery if left installed for an extended period.

Keeping the battery at approximately 75% charged should also be fine and would be recommended as part of a practice to extend the battery life that is advised with common battery maintenance instructions.

Aspire 4736z not charging. charger is good and baterry is new. please advise if software or hardware problem

I would say it was a hardware error. If the laptop works on a battery that has charge in it then the motherboard charging system may be faulty. I would leave the battery on charge for a good few hours as if it is new it will take some time to be recognised, or is a faulty one. Have you a coleage with a similar laptop that could test your battery/charging system?

What does it mean when the battery icon light it flashing yellow?

If the battery indicator is flashing despite it is being charged, then the battery has internal problem which means, it's need replacement. Please check that the battery is not physically damaged and check the voltage. Keep it outside without charging or installing on the system for few hours and try again. If this doesn't help, you'll need to replace it. Good luck. Thanks for using FixYa.

I have a Dell Studio laptop. Will power on with

This should have a "battery check" button on the battery itself. Remove the battery and press the button. If it reveals that the battery is not fully charged, or you cannot get it to take full charge, perhaps all that you need is a new battery. If the battery is failing the check the system makes on it at boot, it won't.

If the battery charged in another system, but not in yours, then most likely you are looking at a motherboard replacement.

Average cost for motherboard is around $200, if you have it installed by a technician, another $100 or so.

Laptop power connection faulty

Hallow Dear,

As your explanation about Battery issue simply I’m advising you to replace your battery with original one.

But before that there is one thing that you can try it out.

---Use your laptop until battery goes down & shutdown automatically then remove the battery and try to discharge it completely with small bulb manually

When it’s on completely discharge (0 Volt) keep it on Outdoor Sunlight about 12 hours.

After that connect it to your laptop & recharge it completely (until Computer LEDs showing you as Fully Charged)

****** REMEMBER DO NOT TURN ON YOUR LAPTOP******
Until its Showing you as fully charged

That will be nice if you can check Battery Voltage & Amperage manually as it is charged fully before turn on your laptop. (if not you can give more charging time accordingly)

This will not solve your any component (thermal fuse, vRegulate) problems inside your battery but will increase your battery Cells Life and most vStoraging problems on Cells inside your battery

Thank you & Best Regards
Dinu….

I have dell Inspiron 6000 laptop computer which has a charging probelm. I have to always keep ac adapter connected so it works. Please advise me. Thank you. Vinay Shah

The problem you are facing is battery drain out, the cells in the battery are not capable to get charged of to give charge and they have to be replaced - So my advise is to replace the battery and get a new one. Contact dell or local sales office in your nearest area. Also compatible model batteries are also available.
