I had the same problem. It's a voltage regulator (maybe 7812 or 7912) problem. In my case the problem was cracked soldering joints on the little PCB where the IC was soldered. Try this: open the case; on the sides of the big heatsink are attacched 2 IC Voltage Regulators. Check these ones for properly solder. After that I can power up my amp without problems.

My pioneer surround sound system has stopped working cannot turn it on and the hdmi light just flashes

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

HOW TO STOP ADDVANCE MC ACC LIGHT FROM FLASHING?

your unit is in protect mode. Try pressing and holding the power and advanced surround buttons. This should turn it on. If it shuts right back off, then you probably have a short in the amp that needs to be repaired.

My pioneer vsx 921 switched off while playing loud. ADv MCACC is flashing and it is not powering on? What could be the problem?

Your unit is locked in protection mode. Hold the advanced surround button and the power button to turn it back on. If it shutdown right away, then you shorted out the amp and need to take it in for repair.

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot if the word PROTECT or PROTECTOR is flashing on the A/V receivers display.

  1. Check the speaker wires and speakers for proper connections.
  2. Reduce the volume level. IMPORTANT: If the receiver is played back at maximum volume level it may enter the protect mode. Maximum volume listening will cause the receiver to run very hot and may drain the output capacitors.
  3. Disable the surround sound option if both the A and B speakers are being used simultaneously.
  4. Ensure the top of the receiver has proper ventilation to keep it from overheating.
  5. If the message only occurs when using a DVD player, the sampling frequency may be set too high. IMPORTANT: Some receivers provide compatibility with the higher sampling frequencies through alternate connections. Consult the owners manual for specific information.
  6. Unplug the AC power cord for about 1 to 2 hours to reset the output transformers.
If the issue is still unresolved, service may be required.

Receiver when turned on is At 25 for volume the clicks and turns off. You can turn it on and turn down the volume so it will not shut off. However, it does not appear to play in surround sound DD or...

You have two different issues here which may be related (or not). Let me address them as separate issues:

1) If the unit shuts down only at high volumes, then either it is heating up (not likely) or there is some DC voltage getting to the final amplification stage. This will trigger the protection circuit which will shutdown the receiver. See the link for more info about protect mode in general.

2) The lack of surround would suggest that the unit is stuck in bypass mode or that the digital surround processing section is not working. Usually when this happens, any attempt to use a surround mode will result in no sound at all or very weak distorted sound. If you are getting sound at normal levels, then I would suspect that the main CPU is not telling the surround section to work. This can be a power suply problem, a CPU problem or even within the processing board itself. Without seeing waveforms within the receiver, I can't tell for sure.

The bottom line is that further investigation is needed. I would recommend that you take this to a shop and request a detailed repair estimate, Armed with that, we should be able to guide you through the repair or at least, provide more details.

Please keep us posted,

Thanks,
Dan

The unit will not stay on

I got similar issue and managed to fix it with excellent tech support from NAD. Flashing LED means system goes in to protective mode. Most probable reason is presence of DC voltage on amplifier out puts. In my case it was both surround amps. It had faulty resistor and a dry jpint at power line

Sony STR-D460Z receiver

A common cause are failures in the amplifier output stage, the drivers, and some of the support components. You will have to send the unit out for service.
