The problem is most likely the water inlet valve. This is a solenoid that opens when there is power to it. It is a common problem on dishwashers and washing machines.

They are not very expensive and are usually fairly easy to replace.

No water is filling in my machine

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that your Frigidaire dishwasher, model# FFBD2411NS, will not fill with water. First make sure that the water supply, to your dishwasher, is turned on. Next, make sure the overfill protector moves freely up and down. You will find this located in the front left corner of your appliance. This keeps your appliance from overfilling. Make sure you clean this occasionally with household cleaner containing vinegar or bleach to dissolve any buildup. The overfill protector should move up and down freely about one inch. If it does not move, lift and clean underneath. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

Ice maker not working

my icemaker has a wire overfill sensor which shuts off the icemaker if there is too much ice in the basket. If this wire gets pushed up it will stop making ice until level lowers OR manually lowered.

The lid switch is likely faulty or is not being activated by the actuator arm. Raise and lower the lid and listen for a clicking sound. If none is heard, you will need to replace the lid switch. Click here to go to the breakdown of your machine and also to order the part.

FDB641RAS2 doesn't fill

you may have a stuck solenoid, when the cycle calls for water you should hear a click, as the solenoid opens, and water should begin to flow... otherwise check to make sure water is turned on at the shutoff where your hoses hook up to the house.

Hotpoint FDW60 overfills and spills out onto the floor when

There is a float in the bottom of the tub that is supposed to rise with the water level and tell the machine when it is full. It looks like an upside down teacup, or a little sombrero and should be near the door, but off to one side.

This float might be snagged on something- remove the bottom rack and check for debris (food, utensils, hair, string...) in the tub. Also make sure there is nothing in the rack that is hanging down over the float. With the machine empty try to raise and lower the float with your hand.

If the float appears to be going up and down then check the electrical side of the switch with a continuity tester (ohm meter). It should go from no resistance to open circuit and back again when you move the float.

If that is okay check the wiring and wire ends for frayed wires or corroded terminals from the switch to the controller.

Last item is it could be an issue with the controller.

Dishwasher will not intake water

See if the float in the front corner inside the unit moves up and down freely and makes a "clicking" sound when moved. If there is a clicking noise, the float switch is probably okay. The switch can be tested with a volt/ohm meter by removing the lower access panel to get to the switch. Some units have an actual water level pressure switch attached to the pump housing instead of a float and switch. These switches can plug up with soap residue causing a no fill or overfill condition.

The problem is more likely the water inlet valve. These valves go bad frequently for a variety of reasons. It is not worth the risk of a valve failure and possible flood to take apart and clean an inlet valve. Replacement is the best solution. In most conditions, the inlet valve will need to be replaced every 4-6 years.

Indesit dishwasher overfilling

There are two ways that dishwashers generally fill. One is a float inside the tub, the second is a tube which fills with water, loops and goes to a pressure switch below the machine. That switch is usually about 1.5 inches in diameter, two wires and a small hose going to it. The float witch is found below the float in the motor area. With the float, sometimes they jam with too much old detergent or food goo. Clean out. Both can have the switch weld closed. Change the switch in either case. Since the unit is not filling with the power off, I'm going to guess the water solenoid is okay.

One thing to check... Have you switched to 100% reverse-osmosis or distilled water recently? I read that the water level probe needs conductive ions (e.g. calcium) in the water for it to detect that water has risen to the probe's level. So, water with too few ions will not register on the gauge, and the tank will continue to fill.
