Question about Frigidaire FEX831CS Top Load Stacked Washer/Dryer

1 Answer

Drys very slow....2 hours or so.

Our Frigidaire FEX831CSO Stacking washer/dryer takes about 2 hours to dry a load of laundry. I realize there are probably 2 heating elements and that one may be failed. I'd be curious...how hard is it for a commmon man to replace one of those elements and also, is there any chance it is a thermostat issue? I opened the door and held the safety switch in, I watched the element kick in could see the glow, then it didn't come back on for a very long time. Of course with the door open there is no positive air flow over the element so maybe it didn't need to kick on. Finally, there seems to be NO blockage of the vent pipe. Thanks.

It is hard on this unit to replace the element as everything has to come out from the front panel back to the back panel, it only has one heat element so the good news is that if it even gets warm your element is good.
There is always the chance that you have a bad sensor but this doesn't happen very often. This machine has control sensors above the element and on the output of the blower, when you held the door open and ran it the heater no doubt glowed bright red and kicked out the top sensor because no air was moving to cool it, this is why it didn't heat again for a while.

On my unit I found after much trouble that the plastic air tube that connects the filter screen (below the door) to the blower motor mounted just above the washer was slightly out of position causing the blower to pull some of its air from the lower part of the machine instead of all heated air from the heat element area. Sort of like holding the door open and pushing the button with your finger. In this case you get some hot air but not enough to do the job, the element overheats and kicks out the top sensor repeatedly but you never notice this.
The air tube is located behind the slanted cover above the washer lid, you also must remove the internal tin cover to see the air tube. all you need is a phillips screw driver and twenty minutes.
It is held against the blower pretty much by luck.
I put three small kinks in the tin cover forming a triangle to make it put pressure on the air tube and hold it against the blower.
Good luck
Quentin

Hello friend, we appreciate your post!

It appears you have a laundry center FEX831CS0 and that your dryer is not working. Can you provide me more specific details? Is your dryer not heating, not turning on, or not completing a cycle? For instance did you notice any strange functions or odd noises prior to this issue? With this information I can better address the issue at hand. Thank you - Matt

Why frigidaire dyer model fex831cso not heating up?

Good Morning Friend,

I understand the dryer is not heating up on your Frigidaire laundry center, model# FEX831CS0. First, there are two house fuses that the dryer is plugged into. Make sure that both are good and the breaker has not been tripped. If one of the fuses is blown, this can cause your dryer to not heat. Secondly, make sure that the lint filter, lint trap area, ducting leading outside, and the outside exhaust duct are free of lint. This can cause your dryer to not dry, due to lack of ventilation. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully. Hope this is helpful.
