Question about Dell Inspiron 1150 Notebook

1 Answer

Connexant Modem, Sigmatel Sound and USB fail to work or install

I have a dell Inspiron 1150 laptop. I have recently installed Xindows XP pro on it and downloaded and installed the drivers from the dell website ( in the correct order supplied by dell )but i cannot install the modem driver ( Conexant D480 MDC V.92 Modem ), or the sigmatel sound driver (vSIGMATEL STAC 9750 AC97 )...both fail saying xxxx not found or sigmatel failed to install shut down restart and try again. USB ports do not work although the all check out correctly and state that they are working. If you plug a usb flash drive into them the drive powers up but the computer never loads it or sees it. This goes for printer connection, ipod anything. I have spent hours trying to sort this out. The BIOS ( A07 )which i recently updated is so minimal you cannot control anything in the PC all drivers seem to be the most upto date and win XP pro is running SP3 with all updates installed. I was wondering if it was an IRQ problem as there seems to be multiple items using the same IRQ 11 ( USBs,Texas Ins )

I had the same problem with a dell m1330. Dell did not provide the xp drivers. I used various programs to identify hardware and then try to hunt them down on the internet. I finally gave up and bought driver scanner from uniblue for $30. Solved all my problems. It also sounds like your chipset driver maybe the wrong one. Also you can download "PCWizard" it will tell you the details you need to know to find the correct drivers.

What is the operating system installed on your laptop? Currently there's only windows xp sound drivers (click here). The sound card integrated with the laptop is SIGMATEL STAC 975X AC97.

If you need further help, let me know with more details.

Good luck.

I have reinstalled Windows xp on my Laptop 6400 inspiron and now I have no audio. I have check Control Panel and it says no audio device is installed. I have tried to download Sigmatel from the Dell...

i believe the audio device for this model is located on the modem bus.
if you install the modem driver first then the machine should display the "found new hardware" wizard. DONT USE THIS.
ignore the wizard and proceed with the sound driver install then reboot the machine.
that should work providing you have installed the drivers in the correct order

I have a problem with my Inspiron 1150. Just a couple of weeks ago the sound all of sudden stopped working. I have tried to reinstall the SigmaTel driver but it won't let me. An error message comes up...

Your laptop has a hardware problem. The unrecognized sound card and USB ports are a dead giveaway. You probably have a loose wire, or worse, a motherboard that is going bad. If your laptop is under warranty, call Dell and get the laptop to them right away. If not, you'll have to have an experienced repair person look at it and you'll have to decide if it's worth fixing. I'm such a person, and I'm a Dell partner. I'm in Rockville, MD and if you're nearby, please call me or send me a message through my website.

Dell Inspiron E1505 Audio

Hi artifax,

I have a suggestion/solution for this that I need you to try. Here it is:

first, go to add or remove programs, look for Creative/SoundBlaster and Sigmatels listed there and uninstall every one of them. Then, go to Device manager and uninstall Creative/Soundblaster/Sigmatel under sound and game controllers. reboot the system.

now download and run this,
E1505/6400 BIOS
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R158849&SystemID=INSPIRONI6400/E1505&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=10430&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=9&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=1&fileid=212350

then download and install this,
Sigmatel Audio Driver
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R171789&SystemID=INSPIRONI6400/E1505&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=8907&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=3&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=3&fileid=235761

Do not install any Creative first, then let me know if this works.

I'll be waiting for your reply.

Dell Inspiron 1150 Sound Card

Hi Pace,

Got to Start>Control Panel>System. Click on the hardware tab. Click on Device manager. Go down to Sound, Video and game controller. See if the Sigma is listed there. If it is, right click an select "Uninstall" Then reboot. Windows should detect it, and reinstall it. If that fails, go to Start>Add/Remove Programs and uninstall any Sigma Software. Download this registry cleaner,
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download458.html and save it to your desktop and run it. Reboot, and hope.
You can also try downloading the newest drivers, here,

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&ServiceTag=&SystemID=INS_PNT_P4_1150&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Good Luck!
