Not getting the superior HD picture i see on other HDTVs

I'm trying to find out the best picture settings for my Sylvania LC370SS8, in order to get the best possible resolution from blu-rays, DVDs, standard quality tv, etc. My tv doesn't seem to look as sharp as many other HDTVs i've seen, and i've heard that the LC370SS8 was supposed to be top-notch.

I have a phillip magnavox big screen tv it works fine but the color is too dark i think i need a picture tube

If its the one indicated here or one like it :

The picture tube type (CRT) rear projection tubes require annual cleaning.

With set off and back removed locate the three large black lens atop the chassis--hard to miss them.

The are the red, green, and blue tubes and are your light source for the picture---------if dark and they are dirty or dusty the picture will be darker and not as sharp or clear as it once was..

spray some glass cleaner on a paper towel and wipe them clean.

Do not touch anything else in set and do it with set unplugged.

put back cover on and see if picture is noticeably improved; if so do it once a year or more if in a dusty place.

Let me know if you have questions.

I have a Sylvania LC370SS8 (37" LCD + DVD) TV. It will stay on for about an hour, then it shuts itself off. The power light flashes while it's off (for about 5-10 minutes) then it comes back on... and...

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.

Hope this helps

I have a new Sony Bravia KDL-26L-5000 with Directv and the image is pixelated. Can I do anything?

Make sure you have subscribed to a HDTV service with your television provider.

Also, make sure that all of the devices that are connected to your television are HD devices, connected with a HDMI cable, not a coaxial or RCA jack.

HDTVs aren't magical TVs : everything from the source to the television, including your home theater and PVR, if any, must be HD-compatible in order for the picture on your screen to be in high definition.

On BRAVIA screens, I know that, when you select an input, it will briefly show the definition of the source in the corner of the screen. You must make sure it's 1080p. If it's anything other than 1080p, your picture is not in HD.

I remember that my grandparents had a similar problem. It turns out their BRAVIA television was displaying a low quality picture (480i), even though they had subscribed to a HDTV service, just because their satellite receiver was not configured correctly.

So maybe the solution is simply to make sure that each of your devices is configured to display only the highest resolution available (usually 1080p) in order to enjoy the best picture quality. Do not trust "automatic" quality settings, because they tend to select lower quality settings (such as 720p, which is not True HD), when they might be able to display true high definition pictures (1080p).
