RUUD 13 SEER HEAT PUMP MALFUNCTION 2009 MODEL

My new outdoor unit(new ruud 13 seer heat pump) has a hammering noise at the TXV after cooling mode turns off, the noise lasts about a minute and is quite loud...also when in the heat mode the head pressure rises to 450psi in the first 30 seconds of operation in the heat mode, therefore i disconnected the ''blue'' reversing valve connection and only use it for cooling at this point but the hammering is most disturbing, my opinion is that the RUUD distributor sold me a defective unit with a faulty TXV/check valve.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Unsure how long ago you purchased this unit, I can only respond to what I have read. I, as a homeowner, would not PAY a contractor until such contractor has properly INSTALLED and successfully TEST-OPERATED said unit/system in ALL MODES to the complete SATISFACTION of the homeowner. Then, and ONLY then, should a contractor be paid. If, in fact, the unit/system was TES-OPERATED in ALL MODES after INSTALLATION, and IF the sytem worked without that loud, hammering noise, then you need to contact the CONTRACTING INSTALLER and have them perform WARRANTY work, if it is sitll under warranty. Most manufacturers provide anywhere between a 5 year and 10 year warranty on their units. Good luck.

The last order date for this product was August 2009. It was put on the market in 2005. It was marketed by Rheem/Ruud as a "Cube" heat pump. It is 13 seer efficiency.

Going to replace hvac system. Don't know what

Hello,
According to the model number it is a 2 ton or 24,000 BTU unit. It is very important that you change the indoor coil as well as the outdoor section, due to it being a 10 SEER unit, and the new basic systems are 13 SEER, the old coil cannot handle the higher SEER ratings.
Rheem and Ruud are the same equipment, just 1 number different on the model number.
I hope this has helped, please rate the new guy :)
Please contact me if I can be of any further help to you.
Have a great day!
Sincerely,
Paul Gibson

Is there a system mismatch with an American Standard 13 seer 3 ton compressor and a Nordyne 3.5 ton air handler? Noise at TRV when heating.

This must be a heat pump? Sometimes the unit can be more efficient with this combonation. What you are probably hearing is the reverse direction of the
refrigerant going back through the liquid line.

If in cooling sometimes you can hear a gurgling sound going through the expansion valve, sometimes
this is a sign of low refrigerant or the system is fine..

If you recently had the outdoor unit replaced and noise is an issue, check to see if the unit has isolation pads installed underneath the unit whether
it be on concrete slab or on brackets mounted to
house. Sometimes the new units come with compressor that has a jacket installed over it
