I am using 3com Officenet Wireless 54Mbps 11g Access Point for my office wireless network. The i.p setting for the router is 169.254.83.1 At the moment, i'm trying to connect the router with a network printer (hp color laserjet 1515n). I had successfully install the printer driver thru the network. Unfortunately, i couldn't print anything thru the device. As temporary countermeasure, i try to replace the router with Prolink Wireless Router. The result is superb. I had no problem printing using that printer.

To solve my problem, is there any setting that need to be changed on my 3com Officenet Wireless 54Mbps 11g Access Point, to enable me using the HP printer? For your information, the default i.p for the printer is 169.254.182.13 I did try to manually change the i.p address to 169.254.83.13 But, the printer didn't allow me to do so. ("invalid entry" message pop out)

yes, i followed all the setup instruction. when i run the setup, it will automatically detect the printer that attached to the network and the installation runs smoothly. when the setup completed, i start with test print. you can see the message says 'printing'. but after a minute, the message says 'failed to print' not on that computer, but all other 30 computer that attached to the network. When i change to a Prolink router with same setting. it works! so, i think there must be some setting to be done in 3com officeConnect Wireless 54Mbps 11g Firewall router.Anyone had an experience configuring network printer this type of router?

here some more info that might help. the 3com wireless router ip was set to 169.254.83.1 & HP color laserjet 1515n with automatic ip of 169.254.182.13 I already try to change the first 3 part of the printer ip to 169.254.83.XXX but the error msg 'invalid entry' come out. contact local HP but until now didnt call back for the solution. then i used a prolink wireless router with ip 192.168.1.1 Installation successful and i can print. so, there is no issue on the ip set. it just the setting on the router to be done. anyone firmiliar adding network printer to this 3com wireless router?

The best way to fix this problem is to change the ip of your wireless router to a different IP like 182.168.2.1 and the printer will be 192.168.2.X.........

My canon mg5220 printer is not printing anything. It just says error when the pop screen pops up. It doesn't give me an error code.

Hi Savannah,
Try deleting the printer entry completely and add it from scratch.

Here's how:
  • Go to System Preferences
  • Print & Fax.
  • Select the printer you want to remove,
  • Click the - (minus) button at the bottom of the panel.
  • Reboot the system.
  • Run Software Update to check for the latest third-party printer software and updates.
  • Make sure the printer is powered on, has paper, and doesn't have any issues such as a paper jam or low ink.
  • Adding, managing, or removing print queues may require an administrator account name and password--make sure you know one for your Mac.

How to add a printer

To add a USB printer
Mac OS X v10.6 comes with software for many third-party printers, so simply connect a USB printer and the print queue will be automatically created. If you do not see your printer in the "Printer:" pop-up menu after connecting it, go to the "To add a printer via the Print & Fax preference pane" section below.

To add "Nearby Printers"
With Mac OS X v10.6 you can quickly add a "Nearby Printer"--a nearby printer is a printer connected to the USB port on a Time Capsule or AirPort base station, a network capable printer that supports Bonjour, or a printer being shared by another Mac. Snow Leopard uses Bonjour technology to find nearby printers.
To add a Nearby Printer, all you have to do is select the Nearby printer you want from the "Printer:" pop-up menu:
7d955333-f928-4e87-9d2a-9a1442c03a9a.jpg
Snow Leopard will automatically create the Print Queue.

To add a printer via the Print & Fax preferences pane
Control-click the System Preferences icon in your Dock and choose "Print & Fax" from the Dock menu. If the Print & Fax lock icon appears locked, click the lock icon and enter an administrator name and password when prompted. Click the + (plus) icon below the Printers pane on the left to open the Add Printer application.

From the Add Printer toolbar you have these default tools:
  1. Default - Used to get a list of all printers that your Mac can see via USB, Bonjour, and so forth. Tip: If you have a long list of printers, use the search field to find the printer you are looking for. Just click the printer in the list that you would like to add and Snow Leopard will add the printer driver for you.
    • Mac OS X v10.6 comes with software for many third-party printers. If an additional or updated printer software is available, Software Update will offer it to you. If you do not see your printer listed in the "Print Using:" pop-up menu or a Generic printer driver is selected, then the printing software may not be available from Apple. For more information about supported printers see this article. You can also visit the printer vendor's website for printer software, or contact them for technical support.
    • Once the driver is set, click the "Add" button to create your Print Queue.
  2. Fax - Used to add a queue for the Fax device connected to your Mac.
  3. IP - Used to add your printer network printers that don't use Bonjour or are on a different network subnet from your computer. Printers that support the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP), Line Printer Daemon (LPD), and HP Jetdirect (Socket) can be added in this manner. See your printer's manual or support documentation for information about how to setup the printer to use an IP-based printing protocol.
  4. Windows- Used to add your printer being shared via the Windows printer sharing protocol (CIFS). Tip: See Mac 101: File Sharing for details about how to add your Mac to a Windows Workgroup. This is often needed to see Windows printer shares.

1f910aff-58d6-4e30-95c5-3a1d991f1945.png
Note: Any applications that are open before you add a printer will need to be quit and re-opened, in order to see all the features of the new printer.

Already installed driver from downloading online. cannot find driver printer in the devices and printer option of the control panel. cannot find driver when i started printing...

If you have not previously installed your printer or you did an uninstall before downloading the new driver, you now need to add the printer using the new driver.

In Windows 7, click on Devices and Printers.

At the top of the window you will see Add a device and Add a printer

Click on Add a printer.

Choose either Add a local printer or Add network, wireless or Bluetooth printer.

Follow through the choices and if the install program is not able to find the dowloaded driver, point to the location where your driver was downloaded. If you did not make note of the location you could run a search or download a second time making sure you save the driver to a location you can remember. You can then say Have Disk when asked and then browse to the location you saved the printer driver on your computer

If you have the correct driver for your printer and operating system the printer should complete installation

Please help to connect my kyocera mita km1530 printer to my pc. I could not add this printer to my pc.

Hi,
Depending on what OS Operating System you have the instructions will vary. I will now give you the way to add your printer to Windows.
Before we start I will tell you if you're maxing out your resources it is very difficult to add a printer without taking another off.
That said. -
1- remove all other printers if there are any
2- if there is any software with the new printer put the disk in and run that program. -
3- if you do not have a disk with your unit and your getting the message there is no driver - google the brand and model of printer and add the word driver - then select to find the driver on the suggested website and down load to your desktop. If you never did this - write down the name of the file you are downloading then SEARCH for the file name you write down.
4 open the file and run that program to add the driver to your pc.
5 - plug in the printer and turn it on.
6- click on START -look for settings - then click ADD PRINTER or PRINTERS - open this and click add printer.
Number 6 will vary depending on how you have you pc set up to show your programs and things - so if you can't seem to make that work just search ADD PRINTER and that should do it - if not - go to HELP and then search add printer.

If you have some follow up questions just come back here or email me at riceski@gmail.com
Also there are tutorials on YOU TUBE that might help you - just go to YOU TUBE and search ADD PRINTER www.youtube.com
I hope this helps you get your printer added
please rate me - - thanks
