Question about Canon PowerShot SD500 / IXUS 700 Digital Camera
The lens on my Canon digital camera will not close... i am unable to take a pciture and do not know the reason for this....when the camera is put on i am able to see my old pictures but when i click to take a new picture the screen is blank..i dont know what to do...please help...i have the canon power shot sd 500 camera and the problem that appears is the E18...... please help me I've had the E18 problem twice - the first time it went away without me knowing what it was, but came back with a vengence recently. My Power Shot A80 is 5 years old so ready for replacing anyway. With nothing to lose I tried the brute force route - REALLY smacked it around to the point where I thought it was completely broken and was making an awful grating noise. Suddenly it worked fine! Very happy as can't afford the new Fuji F200 EXR I want yet but need a camera for my hols soon. Thanks to everyone for all the advice.
Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...
Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:
