I have worked on a few HP's this summer. One of which had issues with the wireless assistant not working. The wireless button was always orange, and when you would push it to turn on the wireless adapter it would popup hp assistant and say disabled or off. I did a lot of research on this problem and it seem to be very common. Well, for the computer I fixed, the best way to fix it was to uninstall HP wireless assistant through Control Panel

I had the same problem on my Presario f500. I could not use wireless and the light was amber. After many other attempts, I finally decided to UNINSTALL HP Wireless Assistant. However, I then went to another computer and DOWNLOADED IT ON A STICK DRIVE which I then REINSTALLED IT ON MY LAPTOP. The light turned blue at startup and I could also find HP Wireless Assistant and open it. My wireless hardware showed up on my DEVICE MANAGER under NETWORK ADAPTERS. Halleluia! It feels good to get the job done!

When you installed your new operating system it erased all of your HP software. You will need to call HP and ask them for an installation disc to update your computer so it will function properly again. Tell them what you have done so they can provide you with exactly what you need.

My wireless assistant has stopped working and the light stays orange

I had the exact same problem...and the wireless adapter was not visible under device manager. The light stayed orange with the switch in either the on or off position. I did all the whole driver update thing and eventually replaced the wireless adapter but no change. Finally I went into the BIOS (F10 on startup) and reset the bios configuration to the default settings EXIT>LOAD SETUP DEFAULTS). It has worked perfectly ever since.

Hp wireless assistant problem

Is your wireless network working fine? If yes, it is better to close HP Wireless assistant program as windows has inbuilt program to detect the WIFI connections. You can type "msconfig", go to startup and close the required process. It should stop.

The wireless driver install package will be available in C:\SWSETUP
But if your notebook came without a preinstalled OS, you'll have to visit HP site to get the drivers for your notebook PC.
Alternatively, try the HP Wireless Assistant to check if it is turned on.

Did you disable the wireless card through the BIOS? Sometimes the wireless card can be accidentally turned off through one of the HP Wireless Assistant which will keep it from turning Blue when you press it
