Question about Altec Lansing VS4121 Speaker

Altec Lansing VS4121 no sound

I've had problems with these speakers in the past, but I was generally able to solve them by uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. This time it is not working, no matter what I do. I have gone through the entire windows troubleshooter and it was no help at all. Windows says the speakers are working properly, yet no sound comes out. Same problem with both speakers and the subwoofer. Please help. I have the exact same problem! Verified every cables and everything is plugged where it should be, went trought windows troubleshooting, in the control pannel it says my drivers are working fine and i have the sound, plugged my headset in every sound connector possible, including the one in the back of the computer where i have my speaker plugged in and the connector the is on the side of the right speaker, and THEY ALL WORK!?!?!?!? So what would be the problem then if all of this seems fine! But no sounds from the speakers and no solutions working out!!! Just once i was so desperate, tried so much stuff (so much i cant even remember what i did exactly), they started working again! I've watched couple of episodes from a TV show I watch, then closed my computer to go to bed, and on the next evening, when I turned it back on to listen to some music, SOUND NOT WORKING!!!!! AGAIN!!!! 1-I'm alone using this computer 2-I did NOT install, nor modified anything (not even the slightest detail like the font color of my desktop) in between the time I had it working again, turned it off, turned it back on the next day!! 3- There were no updates to install upon closing my PC, neither were they any to download and install when i turned it back on soooooooo...... what is wrong with those things!!! seriously! is it because it's writen made in china in the back!!!! Only thing I havent had the chance to do is trying those speaker on a different PC (it's my only pc), and i havent tried other speakers on my pc cuz its my only set, but I figure that pluging my headset in the connector i use for the speaker confirm that the problem isnt the soundcard, right!! ANYWAY!! if anyone has the miraculous solution to that annoying problem, I'd be more than happy to hear it!! just post it on here and I'll look it up and let you guys(and girls) know if it is working out!! THX a bunch in advance!!! PEACE

Thx alot for the help gomez73!! i didnt have the rollback option, but i figure it wasnt the driver since i had it working for an evening after i started having this problem. the problem probably comes directly from the speakers themselves. I'll try to confirm it by trying them over at a friend's place, and if they do work there!! I guess it's gonna be my call to do a full system restore to factory default!!! :P

You may want to try to rollback the driver, right click My Computer, left click properties, click hardware, then Device Manager, then sound video and game controllers, double click on the sound card and rollback if available, the speakers may also just simply be bad, If there is a seperate power source for the speakers,(an AC Adapter) then it may not be working correctly even if the power lights come on. The easiest way to determine if its the speakers, try them in a friends laptop or Desktop, on laptop, plug speakers into the headphone jack for sound output. if they work on another PC, then you have a driver issue, OR more than likely a Windows issue, in which case a Restore may be neccesary to fix, refer to the manufacturers instructions to restore your machine. Microsoftrecomends that you reinstall Windows XP at least every 12 months ( to me if it's not broke, don't fix it) in other words if you have no problems or need for a restore, don't do one because it has been over 12 mths. It sounds like you have done a good job at Troubleshooting, but to confirm the culprit try on another PC,(with your Headphones working, but your speakers wont, it sounds like your speakers have malfunctioned. I hope this helps, if so please give a fixya rating, or if it points you in the right direction, just please give appropriate rating. Thanks for the question

I had a similar set and they drove me mad because they hissed when they were switched off. I bought a pair of Bowers and Wilkins MM1 instead. Fabulous.

If you want yours fixed you would have to take them to an electronics engineer or return them.

My altec lansing vs4121 speaker have to much bass with several mp3 files, waht ca i do

If it's only certain MP3 files you might want to identify WHY those files have too much bass. THAT would have happened when they were created. It's not a speaker's fault how the music sounds. Then there's your PC or whatever other device it passes through. Lots of opportunities for MALadjusted sound. GIGO.

LOL. This is a common, easily solveable problem. Remove your cellphone or anything that emits radiation of any sort from the general area. Don't believe me? send a text message while sitting net to your computer. It does this even if you arent sending a message because your phone sends intermittent signals to the cell tower.

Static but no music from the satelite trebble speaker

Try to reconnect all the wires, the problem seems to be with connection. Instead of spending lot of money on speakers, you can buy just the wires, they are pretty cheap. Hope this helps.

Altec Lansing VS 4121

It is unlikely that this is a problem with your speakers more likely that it is a problem with the DVD player itself. I would recomend trying another DVD player.

Vs4121 altec lansing left speaker wire ripped.

Black should be ground and red is usually the actual audio cable. If you connect them wrong the should not short. They will just sound weird until you connect them properly.

Hope this Helps

Altec Lansing VS4121 no sound

If removing and reinstalling the driver fixed your problem then there was nothing wrong with the speakes. There was probably a problem with your soundcard drivers.

That being said, you should double check that you speakers are plugged in to the right sound board connector and the power supply is plugged into the wall outlet.

Does you computer have a headphone jack? If it does, you might try plugging a headset into it to see if you can hear sound there. If you do then you'll know the soundboard is working properly and maybe the speakers really are part of the problem. CD/DVD drives usually have a headset jack, but this will only work if a cable was run inside the computer from the CD/DVD drive to either the soundboard or motherboard.

What kind of computer do you have? Do you know if you have on board sound or a seperate sound board?
