Re: Boot Failure

Boot failure could be the harddisk is bad or the os in the harddisk is corrupt, try installing a new os, if failure harddisk is bad.

Abit AW8-Max board shows 0.0. on the digital readout on the bottom of the board, but nothing else responds when the power swithch is engaged. The fan on the power unit won't even work.d

When you plug in the power cord is there any lightswhatsoever on the laptop, where the plug goes in or on the AC Adapter of thepower cord?

When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear theDvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for asecond or two? If so the computer is trying to boot or may have booted, butthe screen is not showing for some reason.

Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with thelaptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issuewhen you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous. Most times the problemis with the memory or Video Card. Count the Blinking Lights or Beeps and takenote of their pattern (1 Long or 1 Long followed by 2 Short).

Maybe your power cord is bad if you don't get anything to happen whatsoeverwhen you press the power button.

Maybe you have a Static Charge Buildup. Remove the Power Cord, Remove theBattery, then Press and Hold the power button for 30seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in (leave the batteryout) and hit the power button to see if it boots. If it does, you can putthe battery back in and let it charge. If it's a laptop, Maybe your DC Power Jack which is where the power cord plugsinto the computer is bad. Take an ink pen and push the tip inside thejack and see if the little pin wiggles, if so the jack is bad. You'll have totake the laptop apart to fix it. Most times it is soldered onto themotherboard, so you will have to desolder the old and solder a new one.Maybe your memory is bad or the memory slot is bad.Remove the Power Cord, Open the Case and remove one of thememory chips. Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x onit with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the nextmemory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set itaside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If itboots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and putit into the open memory chip slot and try booting.

My system Processor is working, but its not Displaying anything. Sometime its displayed, but hangs and reboot or shutdown.Send me suggestion what should i do to solve this problem. My system Configuration...

There are different possibilities for system hang up. I want you to find it your self from following my simple instruction.

1. (when computer is turn on) Check temperature... overheating can cause system to hang up, it can cause the system to reboot, it can cause the fatal error message and turns your screen to blue. Overheating is cause by exhaust fan or blower not working. Find this blower or exhaust fan on top of the processor, as built in fan in your video card, attached on your power supply and on the casing of your computer. Replace non working fan or blower.

2. Check video card...faulty video card can cause your system to hang up. It can cause also your system to go on blank screen. Most common problem is loosen connection of video card from the motherboard. Disconnect and reseat the video card properly. Inspect the fan, if not working then video card will overheat and system fail. If you previously see moving colors in your screen especially small boxes, or discoloration and screen going black and white then it means video card is already failing. You will need to replace it.

3. Check for hardware failure. keyboard, mouse lan card can cause your system to halt and hang. You will need to disconnect this first when booting and see if by removing this hardware will complete the system to boot up to operating system. Replace faulty one.

4. Harddisk failure. when computer reset or will not boot up completely then hard disk usually cause this problem. Initial remedy is to reseat its connection sata, ide or power supply connector.
If you hear ticking sound in the harddisk or excessive vibration then it will need replacement.

5. Operating system corrupted. this can cause your computer not to boot up properly and hang the system. Reformat and reinstallation of operating system is required.

6. Power supply failure. you need to check the output voltage. dropping of voltage can be cause bi leaking capacitor in the power supply unit. replace it with exact value. Voltage should read +12VDC for yellow, +5VDC for red. and should be stable even with load.

let me know which one cause it.

Toshiba laptop won't bootup with or without hard drive or with or without memory sticks

hi wvrd

you say it wont boot up, but do you actual mean, it wont start up?
are there any lights on when plugged in, are the fans running ect..or does it just appear dead...(no lights or sounds)

there is a difference if its not booting
or it wont power on

if it is starting up, but not booting to windows, post back and we can go from there.

i see some are assuming its booting up but not to windows, but till we know for sure if its not booting or its not powering up, we wont be able to advise you further till you clarify its state!

this could be something as simple as the power adapter if its not powering on.

#1-07 fail hard drive diagnostic

Well you have 2 different problems. One the 07 failure is a read failure it means that for everytime it tried to read the disk it couldnt. Now you could run a chkdsk /r and have the os flag those sectors as bad and not use them but it is only a matter of time before that drive fails completly. You would run this command from recovery console depending on what OS you have. The other problem is a known issue with the video cards going bad on these models it starts with the wireless not working then moves into just getting a black screen when you goto boot it up. The only fix for that is to replace the motherboard or have the video chip reballed.

Compaq presarios s5500uk wont boot up fitted new motherboard, pentium e5200 processor. existing hard drive ide seagate barracuda 7200.7 120 gbytes os windows xp

check the power supply: unplug the main connector from the motherboard, plug in the ac/mains power cord and switch on the on/off switch if any located on the power supply, locate the GREEN wire on the main connector that plugs on the motherboard, using a small length of wire insert one end into the plug where the GREEN wire is located and the other end into a BLACK wire on the connector. the power supply should power on if it is good: you will see and hear the fan turn on in the power supply. if it is good remove the wire and re-plug it.if it is not good replace the power supply. also check that the 110/220vac swithch is in the correct position for your mains you have a floppy drive connected to the system? if so un-plug it and try again,re-check that you pluged the power button switch connector on the mainboard correctly,

Hard disk doesnot detect

If your hard drive will not be detected, be sure that your hard drive is connected correctly. Check you hard drive if it is plug in the power and the SATA or IDE cable.

Have you experience having trouble by this error, DISK BOOT FAILURE.

I accidently set my boot menu to zero value on both choices now I cant boot back up

You don't say which setting you have 'assigned a zero value to', but the default settings are as follows:

Default operating system - Fortunately you couldn't have deleted anything here. Just make sure it is set to the OS of your choice (Chances are there will only be the one).

Time to display list... and time to display recovery... - Both should be 30 seconds (for XP and Vista). By default, both are ticked in XP, only time to display list is ticked in Vista.

If you hit the edit button (XP only) your boot file should look something like this (upper/lower case is not important, neither is the exact order):

[boot loader]
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Under the system failure section, tick everything.

Default for XP is small memory dump (64 KB), for Vista kernal memory dump.

Dump directory -

XP default is: %SystemRoot%\Minidump
Vista default is: %SystemRoot%\MWMORY.DMP

Do you REALLY promise you'll never do it again??? :-)

P4vmm2 doesnt boot,Y?

Hi yansky, When you turn the computer on do you see or hear any of the following: -Does the power LED turn on and if so for how long? -When you turn you power on listen closely for any sounds like hard drives or fans starting up. -Does anything show on your monitor, if yes what exactly? -When turned on do you hear any beeping sounds from the computer? If you do listen for the pattern of long and short beeps and let us know what they are. If you see absolutely nothing you should try testing the socket the computer is plugged into. Fuses blow, power strips die cords develop shorts so unplug the computer and plug in a lamp to verify you?re getting power. If that doesn?t turn up anything let us know the answers to the questions above plus any other observations and we?ll try to help.
